Bowling Green Eye Surgeon and son of former presidential candidate
Ron Paul, Rand Paul officially announced his intention to run for US
Senate today, shedding his current exploratory status and becoming
a full-fledged candidate. KYWordsmith.com*caught up with Bill Johnson,
the first Republican challenger to begin his campaign for US Senate
more than two months ago. Johnson expressed disappointment in Paul's
characterization of himself as a political outsider. “Rand Paul
claiming to be a political outsider is like President Obama claiming
to be Lincoln," says Johnson. "It is just not true. The only thing
outside about Rand is where he made his announcement, New York City."

KYWordsmith.com*also followed up with Secretary of State Trey Grayson, the Republican Senate candidate who has thus far shown the strongest fundraising support, for his campaign's thoughts on Paul's decision: “Like most Kentucky Republicans, Trey Grayson does not know Dr. Paul. Their first opportunity to meet was this past weekend. Trey looks forward to getting to know him better on the campaign trail in the coming months,” said Kevin Broghamer, spokesperson for Friends of Trey Grayson.

LOL at Trey trying to marginalize Dr. Paul, nice try. Can Johnson be at least semi-coherent by not saying something so stupid as Rand not being an outsider?

I would posit that Obama is exactly like Lincoln.

I think Johnson here has money envy (http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.php?id=KYS2&cycle=2010), as of the last FEC filing on June 30, 2009:

Wow, $7,210. But wait, even that sounds high:

So only $2,210 was from people other than himself. Must suck when others have already raised more in two months (over $215,000 now for Rand Paul) than you likely will from individual donors for the entire length of your lousy candidacy.

I was just getting ready to say the same until I saw that you posted this.

Rand is going to have to outspent his opponent 2-1 almost though, just because of the establishment backing that he has.

Rand needs to have $2 Million to the $1 Million that his opponent will probably have by the end of next quarter.

It is GOP country on the national level. However, there are A LOT of independent minded voters in Kentucky, secondly, there are a lot of big money people in Kentucky that are hardcore democrats, that is why the DEMS have so much money. Their money doesn't seem very strong sometimes though. It seems like Republicans get more bang for their buck. When it comes down to everyday normal people, most are very conservative.
