On August 12, 2009, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal entitled "The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare." The op-ed pointed out some of the perils of the healthcare legislation being pushed by the Obama administration and Congressional Democrats, and outlined many alternatives being proposed by free-market advocates. The WSJ op-ed can be read here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB20001424052970204251404574342170072865070.html

In reaction to Mackey's exercise of free speech and realistic observations, many progressives - a key clientele for the Whole Foods chain - are up in arms. This group is to show support for Mackey and Whole Foods and to show gratitude to John Mackey for risking his bottom line to tell people the truth about healthcare.

You can send a message to Whole Foods main office telling them you support the free market and free speech: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company/service.php

Whole Foods Market: Response Statement: John Mackey’s Op/Ed in the Wall Street Journal

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=120455171970

"We would like to thank our customers and shareholders who have let us know their thoughts regarding John Mackey’s op/ed in the Wall Street Journal. Many people, including John, feel passionately about this important issue.

First off, whether you agree with John or not, our 50,000+ Team Members who live and work in your communities will continue to work hard every day to bring you the best natural and organic products available. We hope you will continue to give us the opportunity to serve you.

While there are differing points of view on this issue, John believes certain aspects of the current proposals before Congress would jeopardize our company’s ability to continue providing our sustainable health insurance plan. Whole Foods Market pays 100 percent of the premiums for our full-time (over 30-hours) Team Members, about 89% of our workforce. Additionally, those Team Members get to vote for their new plan options every three years. John does not want to see that changed.

Finally, John absolutely does care about his fellow citizens who do not have health insurance, and he is in favor of health care reform. He believes that the proposals he put forth will provide access to sustainable health insurance for more people.

We recognize that there are many opinions on this issue, including inside our own company. As we all sort through this together, we thank you for sharing your opinions with us."

My husband was laid off from Whole Foods, so forgive me if I refuse to give the bastards any money.

You're forgiven. :)

Seriously, I was laid off in 2001 from a ".com" company. To be honest I could see it coming a mile away. We had a massive hiring push the year before, tech stocks were down, Micro$oft was slowly rolling out ".net" and companies were worried about taking on new projects until this was stabilized etc. Every week people would get the pink slip without warning. It sucked.

In this case it's a simple question of freedom. Are we going to let the Obama brownshirts bully people who raise dissent against his agenda or not? If you're personally still mad at Whole Foods I understand. But if this was my old company getting boycotted for simply telling the truth I'd do what I could to undermine the brownshirts. But hey, there are enough of us to work different angles. If you can stomach Glenn Beck work to undermine the boycott against him while the rest of us work the Whole Foods angle.

Where else are they going to shop Wal-Mart, these people are full of it? Whole foods is a great, here in phoenix we also have Sprout's and Henry's. I say we support it because it's a purely libertarian organization and I think ideologically proves how well libertarianism works. The left is just raising the entitlement fist. Screw them.
