At the Rally for the Republic Jesse Ventura said he might run for President in 2012. Now's the time for him to make his decision.

Anyone heard anything yet?

I hope not. He would pull away all the people who think his big-government policies are change, again leaving people who like liberty and understand economics out in the cold.

Yeah I hope he doesn't run. I would rather have Gary Johnson or Ron Paul announce their 2012 run soon.

Most candidates will start their "exploratory committees" the beginning of next summer.

You want a big government socialist to be your candidate? And people say I'm the one in the wrong place here?

Never mind the fact he basically implied we were all racists at the Rally For the Republic because we're against illegal immigration.

Never mind that he's right there, but then even a blind squirrel gets a nut now and again.

So as not to hijack the whole thread I'll only add this piece and not respond unless you would like to open yet another thread on the topic, brown people (or pasty people from Canada) are not the problem, the system is. Any human on the face of the planet deserves the same rights as you, including to put his labor into the American market in exchange for pay. What the system and the welfare state have done beyond that is not an immigration problem, it is a problem with the system.

I don't think it's a smart move for anyone to announce they are running for president before the 2010 elections.

Still, it was wrong to say we were afraid of them, and that kind of insult will scare off the average Republican. He should've went with your arguement.

Agreed, the race calling doesn't help, especially when you're speaking to the group. Bottom line is, if you want individual liberty and limited government in any way, you do NOT want Jesse Ventura representing you.

Who cares. We're still way too far away from the next election anyway. Focus on Obama not passing legislation destroying term limits in the meantime.

Now now, calling anyone who's against illegal immigration racist is about the same as calling anyone who dissents from Obama a racist. I'm against it, chiefly because I don't think people should benefit skirting the law. That being said, I /do/ heavily believe our immigration limits are pretty ridiculous and need to be made far more lax. Still no excuse for border hopping.

_27_ is right here.

If we believe in free markets, then we need to be consistent in believing in free markets when it comes to employment. The problem isn't immigrants coming into the country. The problem is the welfare state, and the police state.

Anyway, why would you trust so-called government authorities to handle immigration when you, as a libertarian, likely don't trust them in any other arena? Do you think that they somehow have border patrol and immigration figured out but are a disaster in all other areas?

Consistency is key here.

I tend to see illegal immigration or crossing the border without permission as trespassing or violating property rights.
