In the 1950's, the Federal income tax amounted to only 2% of the median family income. Americans enjoyed the highest standard of living in the world, usually with only one income. Now, contrast that to the median income family pays 25% to Federal taxes, not to mention the additional 25% that government at all levels (state, local, hidden etc.) takes from you. Meaning we work half the year just to pay taxes. Add to that, most families now need 2 incomes just to keep from going bankrupt. The average working mother brings home 32% of the family income. So, basically she is working all year just to pay the family's taxes.
