I'm trying to compile a list of libertarian leaning governors and senators from America's past.

Thanks!

Gary Johnson for one.

... That's actually all I know! I just got into the field of politics. As said by many, "Ron Paul cured my apathy."

It's pretty funny. I found a paper I wrote in my government class in who knows what grade (but it was during Dubya's 1st or 2nd presidential term), and wow was I a socialist.

Fmr. VA Gov. Thomas Jefferson ;)

SC Gov. Mark Sanford and Fmr. MN Gov. Jesse Ventura had some pretty notable libertarian streaks, obviously.

Also, Andrew Jackson was Governor of Florida and Senator from Tennessee.

I guess, just Wikipedia all the libertarian founding fathers, since most of them were governors or senators at some point.

Why does Jefferson get labeled a libertarian? Did he call himself a libertarian?

Of course not. The phrase "libertarian" as we currently use it didn't even exist in that day. Libertarians claim Jefferson in hindsight because he advocated economic liberty, sound money, non-interventionist foreign policy, personal liberty, and constitutionally limited government.

Jesse Ventura ... well sorta .. haha

You mean the guy who hails a 375 Million (tax) dollar straight track train that goes from the airport to downtown, with an operating budget of (negative) 12 Million (tax) dollars annually as one of his largest victories while in office?

Jesse Ventura is a traditional American Progressive, big government elitists controlling and planning, but you are free to sleep with anyone you like. He's no friend to true freedom and liberty.

Except when he was in office...
