The NY MeetUp went to the NRA NY dinner last night and we had very good success. We had a strategy to use multiple mediums to communicate with the audience multiple times.

1. About 10 volunteers handed out litereature as people walked into the event. They had several signs that were awesome and said "Ron Paul Welcomes the NRA to NY."

2. A few people dressed in suits attended the dinner. They worked the room, collected buisnesss cards and got the support of the local chapter president. (Big Rudy crowd, but wait ...)

3. We then passed out literature on our fisrts pass around the room. On the second pass, we gave bumper stickers and asked for e-mail addressed.

One Rudy suppoirters said, "Rudy sued gun manufactureers? No way. I am tearing his bumper sticker off my car!" He was given a Ron Paul bumper sticker.

4. At the end, one guy handed out DVD on the way out the door.

5. The group will follow up with e-mails in the next few days asking for money, asking for a vote, asking to go to the web site.

It was an effort to get Ron Pauls name in front of people multiple times in multiple formats with a chance to follow up. Our strategy was to use 6 possible messaging mediums; literature, signs, bumperstickers, face-to-face, DVD and e-mail follow up.

Campaign experts say that you need to see a candidates name five times. They say the most effective way to do this is mulitple mediums over a very short period of time. We tried to employ that strategy.

Any suggestions are welcome?

About 200 people attended the dinner.

The lead speaker was Mark Smith, author of Disrobed.

We used 4 types of litererature. The official web page from the campaign printed, a slim jim, a comparison we made up in larger font. I will attach in next post.

DVD was something relatively benign.

We put Ron Paul very large and the other candidates statments in italics and small. I saw a study saying italics and small make the candidate look weak ...

Our message in NY is that Ron is beating Rudy.

--------------------------------------------

RON PAUL
President 2008

• The NRA rates Ron Paul an A on gun rights.
• Ron Paul has always supported the right to bear arms.
• Ron Paul opposed DC gun ban.
• Ron Paul has WON two debates seven straw polls.
• Ron Paul WON the recent Fox News debate in New Hampshire.
• Ron Paul says, “if we put the responsibility on the right people and respected the second amendment, I sincerely believe there would have been a lot less chance of 9/11 ever happening.”

Other candidates oppose the 2nd Amendments right to bear arms:

• Rudy sued gun manufacturing companies in NY and other states.
• Fred: Fred Thompson voted in favor of Lautenberg Domestic Confiscation Gun Ban.
• Mitt says “We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts, I support them. I won’t chip away at them."
• Hillary says “I believe the American people are ready to come together as a nation and do whatever it takes to keep guns away from people.”
• Obama wants to Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons and increase state restrictions on the purchase and possession of firearms.

There is no way that we would ever give out such stuff. The goal is to get Ron Paul elected President, not "educate" people about such things. We're here to win, and there is no way that a video like that would appeal to people other than the 2% that already believe in such conspiracies.

The DVD was compiled by our AV guy Kevin (7 minutes long): http://ronpaul2008nyc.wordpress.com/2007/09/22/ron-paul-defending-your-second-amendment-rights/ and was essentially Ron Paul speaking about his stance on the 2nd amendment. The DVD was professionally labeled by our PR guy.

If you could have Kevin upload a high quality copy of that (or mail us a copy) it would be a great help!

Guns are always a top 3 issue here in alabama, and we are trying to hit up NRA meetings and gun shows real real hard. People here still chant "rudy" yet if they knew RP's stance on guns vs. rudy, that would change 100% of the time here.

Regarding the DVD... is there any way you can snag it off of YouTube to burn on your DVD? The file size is almost 2GB for 640x480, and it'll take me 2 hours to export, and 2-3 hours up upload. The YT url is:

You can download from youtube (youtube rules say that you can't upload a file over 100 meg or over 10 minutes). I use either:

http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php or
http://www.videodl.org/

to download videos from youtube.

I'll make a dvd from it today and torrent it (with Kevin's permission).

In Peace,
