Not a bad interview.

Lawrence O'Donnell is one of the most knowledgeable but one of the most determined ideological left-wing hacks in the media. In a normal situation Peter Schiff wouldn't have that type of resistance (i.e. where's Schiff's GOP primary opponent?) but I think Peter Schiff would do well, if he prepares, in a debate with O'Donnell.

He trapped him by asking if Peter's Dad used medicare. "Yes, but he's a unique situation.." obviously not wanting to explain that he is a political prisoner.

Yeah, he also went to his most "radical" position i.e. abolishing Medicare first. He did that to Joe Scarborough as well in a debate in order to "discredit" him. He's a hack but a very, very, skilled one.

The answer: "I would phase it out over time. We should take care of those so dependent on the system while allowing younger people to transition out"

Yeah he just needs to have it in "soundbites" which is actually one of his strengths. Unfortunately it's also O'Donnell's as well. O'Donnell is so much of a hack that he was a chief writer for "West Wing". West Wing was basically a homage to the goodness of left liberals. Not to mention a successful propaganda piece.
Like O'Donnell, West Wing was really well done, even incorporating opposition arguments, but leaves the viewer with the result that "Hey we looked at the ideas, ours are just obviously right, good and the only reasonable alternative".

O'Donnell is a DNC attack dog and therefore does not have a ounce of credibility as a commentator. MSNBC probably put him on to start his ranting-yelling schtick so they could use a sound bite against Schiff to help the Dodd campaign.
He was also the Democratic Chief of Staff of the US Senate Committee on Finance from 1993 through 1995. In 1992, he was Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

Good point. Peter Schiff and Rand Paul should really watch out for these "types" of interviews which can be material for opponents.

EXACTLY CORRECT.
Peter should learn from this and get out in front of his dad's story.
They were trying their best to pain Peter as a kook with unworkable ideas.
Am I the only one who is starting to feel a very strong sense of the media personalities being some of our worst enemies? :(

Yeah, I've thought about this lately. I tend to get excited when we see "one of ours" with good press but I don't think our success will be through the media coverage. In fact it may well be counter-productive as shown above. Direct mail, campaign ads, and door-to-door campaigning is the only way to get the message through uncorrupted by the establishment.

About his dad...I'm not sure if they were working the tax protester angle or not. I actually think Peter Schiff is too self-conscious about it. He is under no obligation to bring his dad's actions up.
I'm thinking it was a general charge of hypocrisy of "Your dad uses Medicare and you want to abolish it?"
MsDoodahs

Yep.
The internet works great IF YOU USE IT.
What are the demographics of CT? Is it dominated by older folks?
Who VOTES? Not just last time when the nation was mesmerized by *the one,* but in mid term elections?
The net does NOT reach the older voters.
And if the older voter is the predominate type of voter in CT - then failure to reach that older voter by methods OTHER THAN THE INTERNET means Peter will fail.

Could be.
Peter should take a lesson from Ron here - don't terrify the older voter by making them think you would abolish Medicare and toss them out in the cold.
Explain that the program could be phased out SLOWLY.
With SLOWLY being the key word.
Emphasize that we must care for those who are DEPENDENT UPON Medicare, blah blah blah...

The radio show is usually archived here: http://www.wabcradio.com/sectional.asp?id=30583. He' pretty early in the program when they post it.
Enjoy.
That was an awesome appearance, I think that Peter came across really great.
But it's true that if the media begins to consider him a serious candidate then he should get familiar with Dem talking points, maybe he should take some advice from Ron Paul, but even Ron Paul didn't need to deal much with Dem attacks, because of all the Republicans nonsense that he had to go through...

DAMN! He's like Bruce Lee when he's debating democrats. I'm liking Peter's chances more and more.
He needs to stay away from controversial statements though. Like when he said we'd be better off under British rule (another thread). Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I'm pretty sure that statement was classic Schiff sarcasm. He knows how to be entertaining for sure.

That whole later interview was ridiculous. I can't believe anyone could take that guy seriously after that blatant display, it was just as bad as anything I've seen out of FOX.

wtf was he thinking. I am just some guy in a forum that posted the below yesterday in this thread. If I could see it why could not he or the people around him.

I hope the viewer is smart enough to see through this. But I have little faith in the intelligence of MSNBC viewers.

This is very good.
Peter Schiff and Rand Paul will dominate the health care reform debate, riding the issue into the Senate.
Ron Paul and Sarah Palin will provide star power as needed to stop evil communist ObamaCare and win in 2010.
