He's a pacifist who doesn't believe in singling-out and attacking an individual who attacked your country. Ron Paul would (with Congressional order) take appropriate measures against those actually responsible for attacks against us. Kucinich isn't all that far off on a lot of talking points though. I just don't get the "don't protect the United States with force, if it came to that" kind of mentality. And, no, I'm not talking about f'ing pre-emptive anything. I'm talking about defense.

Ron Paul would (with Congressional order) take appropriate measures against those actually responsible for attacks against us.

It's not just that 'he would', it's that he actually did introduce legislation that would have created a constitutional war on the admitted 9/11 attackers through letters of marque and reprisal. He voted against the authorization to invade Afghanistan and voted against the Iraq War resolution because they were unconstitutional non-declarations of war -- abdicating our interests in favor of enforcing UN resolutions -- and he rightly believed nation building would be the end result.

Gravel is suggesting that we use tax dollars to build 5 million windmills in 5 years and bankrupt the energy industry.

There are several wind farms in my state.

Windmills are not magic. This not Sim City. Windmills are only cost-effective under very specific circumstances and unsuitable for use in many geographic areas.

I don't know how mandatory production of 5 million in 5 years would impact per unit cost, but I think the majority of them would never recoup the initial cost in the lifetime of the unit.

But then the government can just borrow money from China to build them and we won't have to worry!

I originally thought Gravel but maybe now Kucinich.

Kucinich has the candor and integrity.
Richardson the Constitutional high ground.
Hillary has the experience and connections.

Our votes would be lost on Hillary, though. We should go for K or R, I think.

Right now they don't have enough ROI to compete well with subsidized nuclear and coal. Probably in the next 5 years or so they will become much more attractive. In 10 years solar will reach economic parity I think.

I agree, but it only takes a few 100,000 to switch that to a few years away. RP would kill the sub programs, so it could be a lot faster than that.

I don't like any of them. I was gonna vote K, but the negative rating for all is enticing too.

Yup. That's what I'm gonna do. Negative for all.

It has little to do with subsidies (although those should stop too). Windmill power alone can not meet our energy needs. These units provide very poor energy density (require a lot of land to produce the same energy), are completely unsuitable for many geographic areas, are not reliable, and are not cost effective other than in select circumstances.

There is no need to look for alternatives to coal and oil at this time. Coal and oil are cheap. The free market is more powerful than any dictator. They will keep selling us their oil whether they like us or not, because that oil money is what keeps them in power.

The most immediately cost-effective approaches to reducing human carbon emissions are energy efficiency (such as better mileage vehicles) and emissions management (such as scrubbers).

i'm starting to sort of like richardson a tiny bit - hes not a gun grabber (even has a conealed carry permit), and he seems fairly moderate compared to alot of the other dems. I know people say kucinich and gravel for their "honesty", whatever that means, but Richardson is the only one whos not far-far left on social issues, and is good on the war too. Then again, he IS for open borders, is pro-choice, wants government managed care (though hes not calling for complete socialism or UHC), and wants alot of government subsidies and spending in alot of areas. Im actually starting to think i like him the most of all the dems, though thats not saying much, considering every dem is a big gov tax-and-spend type.

I'm gonna vote for Kucinich, I think he's less of a threat to Paul in the general election than Richardson would be. A governor is a stronger candidiate than a representative.

I guess there's no accounting for taste, but I love Gravel and Kucinich precisely BECAUSE of their liberal social views. Everyone else up there seems, to me, just as authoritarian as the Republican frontrunners. Richardson scares the Hell out of me with his CFR membership and open-borders stance. I also hear he's a bit of a spendthrift, but that could just be a rumor.

This is the first democratic debate I've watched this year, and it was tough to sit through without throwing the remote through the TV. I needed a drink after 5 minutes of watching, and finished 6 of them by the end of it.

I seriously think that any member of this forum could have been in that debate and made them all look like fools, let alone Ron Paul. For that matter, any 12-year old with a copy of the Constitution would make them all look like clowns... even Kucinich and Gravel.

That's the last democratic debate I'll watch, and I'm doubling my efforts to get Ron Paul elected. If anybody besides Ron Paul ends up as President, there's going to be either a Greater Depression or a very bloody revolution.

Well, he took a wide variety of pills, but yah stayed away from the booze.

Coincidentally, the nazi's had a big thing with smoking and I think tried to ban it everywhere.

Yeah, I haven't figured out what is harder to sit through, the Facist Party debate or the Commie Party debate.
They should just cut to the chase and put a hammer and sickle flag behind the Dem debate and a huge swastika behind the GOP debate.

Hillary, Obama, and I think Edwards are all CFR members too.

I'm for open borders too. If we end the welfare state, who cares if mexicans want to move here? They won't get school and healthcare paid for, so they will have to be productive citizens in order to make it.

Yeah, I feel the same about the republican debates, but keep watching them to see Ron Paul. It's like a really good 5 minute long Ron Paul show with 90 minutes of crappy commercials.

In the future, I may just stick to the YouTube mix with only the Ron Paul highlights. I will be watching the PBS GOP debate tomorrow night though... it should be interesting without Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, McCain, and Tancredo there.

Holy shit, so much ignorance in America. Let me start off by saying BILL RICHARDSON IS A COMPLETE MORON! DO NOT BE FOOLED! Look at his answer for social security.

Kucinich and Gravel showed they were completely out of touch with reality. If you think you can save social security that rules you out right away, its impossible. And 5 million windmills? I would still vote for them because of the anti-imperialism stance, but they both had really weak performances tonight and we'll be lucky if we see them in another debate.

The rest of the candidates were just plain scary to watch.

And I think there is a point that a lot of people miss even on these forums. Our country is in for some big problems even if Ron Paul is elected. I think a global economic depression is unavoidable at this point, too much damage has already been done. Ron Paul will protect our liberties and put the responsibility of rebuilding the country into our hands, where it needs to be.

I couldnt watch the debate because I can't stand the liberal rhetoric plus I can't stand watching Richardson. He looks like the lovechild of Carlos Mencia and George Lopez and he TALKS WITH HIS HANDS entirely too much. Everytime I see him I want to yell to put your hands down!
