You Tube has expanded its zealous copyright crusade by suspending the popular C-Span Junkie user channel, and in doing so has pulled hundreds of viral Ron Paul videos, which are now completely dead.

The C-Span Junkie user channel, a non-partisan archive of short clips taken from C-Span broadcasts of events in the Congress and the Senate, has been the home of the vast majority of You Tube videos you have seen of Bernanke, Geithner, Paulson and others being confronted in Congress, as well as Ron Paul’s speeches on the House floor. A total of more than 6400 videos in all have been pulled, hundreds of which featured the Texan Congressman.

Whether or not C-Span itself requested that You Tube pull the channel is not known, but it is clearly in the public interest and constitutes fair use to show a clip less than 10 minutes in length of what the people who are supposedly our Representatives are saying in Congress on our behalf.
As we have highlighted before, You Tube arbitrarily suspends accounts based on flimsy copyright claims that aren’t even properly investigated.
We had our own You Tube account suspended following a copyright complaint from a separate party who didn’t even own the copyright on the original material. In addition, the copyright claim was clearly erroneous as it was based on the fact that Alex Jones held up a printed version of an online newspaper story for a few seconds on camera. The channel was eventually reinstated after You Tube received a flood of complaints.

“I don’t know if you can imagine what it’s like to in a moment see 6400 videos gone,” writes the channel owner on the C Span Junkie website, “Figure 6400 hours (easily) poof GONE! I did this for the common good and now it all gone.”

The channel has now been replaced with a new account but it’s unlikely to survive long if the owner dares to post anything of substance.

Truth is no longer acceptable on You Tube as it transforms itself into a pale reflection of Hulu, a site owned and operated by NBC Universal (GE) and Fox Entertainment Group (News Corp), that is to say a joint venture by a corporation owned by a death merchant (GE manufactures attack helicopters and jet engines) and a disinformation platform owned by a notorious neocon, Rupert Murdoch.

In the Hulu-ized universe, there is no room for truth or alternative media — all channels will contain the same schlock and mindless pablum already available on cable and broadcast television.

Videos of members of Congress grilling Bernanke and his cohorts about auditing the Fed and finding out where trillions in missing TARP funds has disappeared to just aren’t part of the sanitized and lobotomized video landscape that You Tube wants to portray.

If you post videos about people eating each other’s vomit or clips of plastic bimbos with their breasts hanging out then you’ll be left alone, but God forbid should anyone try to give the country a window on what’s actually happening in Congress and what their own Representatives are talking about – in that case your thought crimes will immediately be censored and removed.

Here we go, email CSPAN and ask them if they asked for the popular 'CSPANjunkie' on youtube channel to be pulled?

viewer@c-span.org

email the press team at google and ask them Why Youtube have pulled the CSPANJunkie website and demand a full investigation:

I doubt it was the cspan videos that got them pulled. Despite the channel name, it was in no way limited to cspan videos. If he had limited it to cspan videos i bet he would still be online. Not that I like this development....

well, can't they send him a message or just destroy the infringing youtubes, why delete the whole damn channel? it's so heavy handed

Send them an email anyway and complain.

You want the heartless purely capitalistic response?

He knew the rules, he uploaded copyrighted materials, he violated the TOS, not us. It is not profitable for our company to dig through his 6k videos to identify all the infringing videos. Since he has shown throw his actions to continually upload infringing material we decided to just close his account.

Another possible thing to realize is that this will give Ron Paul haters something to do in
their free time. I can just picture NoLibertarians from the Digg threads scouring Youtube
for any Ron Paul Youtubes to have removed due to "Copyright Violations".

That guy is such a douche.

But here's a banner ad at the bottom of the page offering free Newt. So, if you consider a neocon an acceptable substitute (or just want to make up a batch of witches' brew) you've got it made!

Haven't seen much of Ron Paul on the MSM lately, either. Seems his audit the Fed idea caught on and suddenly he's back to being He Who Must Not Be Named. Seems they just wanted to show his face just enough (well between elections) that they can call us silly for calling them out on this...

That guy is such a douche.

Douchebaggery seems to be where the big bucks are these days.

A little off topic...

Try Bing, under video search for 'Ron Paul' they show under 'related people':

- President Bush I
- President Bush II
- President Clinton
- President Reagan

See a pattern?

I don't know anything about this specifically, but if it helps, *I THINK* CSPAN has an agreement with the Congress so that House and Senate floor materials are "public" but that the committee hearings and original programing belong to CSPAN. There was some previous dustup (not affecting Dr. Paul), but that's all I can vaguely remember off hand.

Dependence on YouTube was a mistake.

We should have had a Liberty Video site up and running many, many months ago.

Now we have no choice.

Post videos on a private site in a passworded directory. Give access to trusted forum members and others so bandwidth won't be overloaded.

When a video goes down - have three other people replace it on Youtube by downloading it from the private site.

CSPANJunkie had a chunk of vids on his channel that weren't from CSPAN. I'm not saying I agree with the banning of his account, but he had plenty of stuff from mainstream media channels as well. I've been a big fan of his channel for the most part over the past couple of years. It's a shame this happened, but the article is a little misleading. It was predominately CSPAN on his channel, but there was still a big chunk of non-CSPAN vids. These are probably what cause his account to be suspended.

Which is up to interpretation, which takes lawyers; I bet the person that put in the takedown request(s) has better ones. Evidently google didn't want to fight it for a user that doesn't pay them any money. sad but true.

What other videos have been taken of you tube? Infowars videos disappeared before just in time for one of fatboys last money drives so I don't trust him. A private company is fighting for it's survival here, stop being paranoid. This may not be an anti-Paul thing.

Copyright is mercantilist BULLSHIT. It is a monopoly on the use of patterns, and enforced by the state. It is socialism in essence.

If youtube had the balls, they wouldn't be using copyright as an excuse... because it clearly isn't the main reason.

excellent ideal. it is up to us to keep these vids SOMEWHERE on the web to always be available to the public just for the sake of history and the truth and how it all went down.

My blog (address in signature) pales in comparison to CSPANJunkie's, but because all my videos are subtitled, they've been uploaded and saved, so they cannot ever be deleted (unless I am mistaken?). I have about 125+ videos up, and the index makes it pretty easy to locate videos of interest. Hope that helps.

According to this post on his blog (http://cspanjunkie.org/?p=1911) from six months ago, C-Span wasn't happy about the name "C-Span Junkie" because they thought it suggested an endorsement of his channel.

Not to sound like a wet blanket, but I did try in vain to get people to use ronpaularchives instead of youtube, for just this reason. Maybe with this going on, I will bring it back online and see if cspan junkie wants to repopulate a site that wont delete, censor oe ban him.

Or others...

Man, they took all the best videos off of there. Some of them had millions of views.

I was thinking about that. I don't know if there's been any precedent, but getting a court to agree that adding subtitles is fair use shouldn't be too hard.

While it sucks for us, Youtube faces a choice between either pulling a few videos to satisfy another media company's copyright claim, or facing a lawsuit from that other media company for not pulling their videos--a lawsuit which could bankrupt them and shut Youtube down entirely. It's evil, yeah, but it's the lesser of two evils.
