I was wondering whether anyone of you ever took this test:

http://www.bcaplan.com/cgi-bin/purity.cgi

I'd guess Ron wouldn't score as a pure libertarian. (Not saying that this is a bad thing in spite of scoring as a libertarian myself) I think it is a pretty good and fun test.

Why did you answer yes to the question "Should the law itself be privatized?" No offense intended, just curious at what your support for that was.

I believe the state is an evil, immoral, authoritarian entity, and should be removed from society. So, yeah, I don't think the state has any reason to enforce "law". I believe "law" ( most people think of law as something that provides order ) can best be provided through the free market of a totally free society.

But, heck I can't explain it well, go read some Rothbard

I got a 79. I believe the state and gov't is a necessary evil, and I do support gov't on the local level since it is closer to the individual. Not EVERYTHING needs to be privatized.

If I posted the number 88 on a liberal website I would be called a Nazi.

I'm not sure about law being privatized, then rich people like O.J. can just buy their freedom and get away with murder. Oh, wait. Nevermind.

I guess it's a good test of your knowledge of Rothbard, Mises, etc writings...I wonder if Rothbard or Mises would get a perfect score? Would they agree 100% with each other on everything?

That's the only one I answered no to.

Not at all - Mises was a minarchist, Rothbard an anarcho-capitalist who did participate in the system to an extent. Mises said about anarchism, at least of the sort Rothbard proclaimed:

"An anarchistic society would be exposed to the mercy of every individual. Society cannot exist if the majority is not ready to hinder, by the application or threat of violent action, minorities from destroying the social order. This power is vested in the state or government."

Obvious he believed government has a necessary role to protect liberty and have a uniform system under a /government state in which private property and life/liberty were ensured, rather than Rothbard who argued private groups working under a common moral libertarian code would be better than a state enforcing a codified law system. Then you have an even more radical position discussed by david friedman where law itself was subject to market demands. I tend to fall somewhere between Rothbard and Mises, closer to mises, as a minarchist.

I said no to most of the 5 point questions. I like toll roads over state income taxes for example, but I don't think we should sell of all the freeways to coca cola or something. Although I wouldn't object to trying that with maybe a few of them.

I also don't necessarily have a problem with subsidized k-12 education, although I think they should require user fees and shouldn't be mandatory and should always be charter model schools controlled locally and never at the state level.

someone should turn this into a poll to see what the scores are for the whole forum

61 and I am happy with that. I will keep fighting the libertarian fight and get off that bus when I need to. Unfortunately I think I will be on the bus for a long time to achieve the 61.

91-130 points: You have entered the heady realm of hard-core libertarianism. Now doesn't that make you feel worse that you didn't get a perfect score?
