I attended the town hall event in Bristol,VA today. Though very few were allowed inside, there was an amazing turnout outside of people protest healthcare reform, among other things. I hope to send you pictures soon of some great signs I saw. It was expected that those in opposition to the bill would outnumber those in favor by 10-1, but I feel it was much, much more.

I do have a question I was hoping you could answer. During the motorcade when the president was arriving, there were several vehicles following the limo that contained the secret service. All of the vehicles had all the windows rolled down, and back hatch open on the SUVs with the men holding their, I assume assault rifes, machine guns, drawn on everyone lining the streets. Needless to say it took my breath away at the sight of them, and made my friends and I dizzy with fear. I have seen the secret service before, but never like this. While they were intimidating, I never felt in danger. The guns were not drawn when the motorcade was leaving the event. But I turned on a local talk radio program as we were leaving and all the calls were about witnessing the guns being pointed at them and nothing else until the end of the program. – Gateway Pundit (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/07/obama-secret-service-pulls-guns-on-tea.html)

"Secret Service draws guns on crowd at TN town hall meeting! "

It says right there in the first line that it was in VA, not TN.

But it says, "Bristol,VA"; besides if it was in TN, I would have expected you to have known about and have been in attendance. :) But don't mind me, I'm just busting your balls from afar in my socialist republic of NJ.

Bristol (TN OR VA) is like a 4 or 5 hour drive from where I am at. Obama isn't worth the gas money. ;)

I work in DC frequently and have seen many a motorcade. This is pretty standard fair. The POTUS doesn't ever travel light, or lightly armed.

Yeah, the comments I saw indicated that the vehicles in the rear always keep their weapons at the ready. As one commenter put it, sort of like a dictator.

Doesn't surprise me. They aren't fools to think their Change has been that positive, even though they keep that rhetoric.

"Most of the Quaintance show was devoted to the many callers who were present at the protest and were outraged when one or more Secret Service agents allegedly “leveled” their guns, “swept” and pointed them in the direction of the crowd. Apparently, the “hicks” have a real problem when the folks in charge of protecting members of a gun-hating administration (that would prefer it if only the “well-trained” military and police were armed) do not exercise basic gun safety rules. "

That's fucked up if that's true.
