DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two DeKalb County police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave after an investigation revealed they ran a background check on President Barack Obama.

A representative for the DeKalb County CEO’s office identified the officers as Ryan White and C.M. Route.

Officials said Obama’s name was typed into a computer inside a DeKalb County police car on July 20 and ran through the National Crime Information Center.

The secret service was immediately notified and contacted the DeKalb County Police Department.

A representative said both officers have been with the department less than five years.

A representative said one of the officers denied involvement.

An official investigation is being conducted by the DeKalb County Police Department’s Internal Affairs division.

It is unclear why the officers ran a check on the president.

I'll tell you why they ran a check, they were sitting there bored out of their minds and they said "Hey, who can we run through the computer?" And one says "How 'bout the Pres?" Then they laugh and run it.

They were disciplined, but not for the right reason. They were not disciplined because they abused their power and ran checks on innocent people when they had no probable cause to do so, only because they ran the check on the President.

LoL,

Makes you wonder.
Why.
Not why they ran it, that could be boredom or curiosity.
Why did the NCIC system RED FLAG an attempt to check this individual?
Things that make you go,,,hmmm

Imagine all of the checks they run without probable cause that are never red flagged.

Actually it makes a lot of sence to red flag such a search. Public officials, people that work in the black world. These systems have been hacked (or "borrowed, briefly...") and it could give you a "heads up" of an impending hostile operation or that the opposition noticed you...

What is comical about this is that the police representative says this is an invasion of privacy, but then the government turns around and mandates RFID/PASSID-based driver licenses.

Hay, don't forget the MANDATED National Health ID card in the current legislation... Cute backdoor, eh?

That's about what I was going to say.
