Republican Party of Florida chairman Jim Greer is being asked to answer to a call for an audit of party books amid questions from top Republican leaders as well as rank and file members about spending on chartered jets, five-star hotels, sports tickets and even men's clothing shops this election cycle.

While concerns about Greer's spending have been festering behind the scenes for weeks, New Port Richey Republican Joe Aloisio brought the dust-up into the open Thursday when he sent a letter to party members calling for an audit of party finances.

He asked why the party bought tickets to sporting events such as Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees games, trips to Disney World, and spent $682,000 on chartered planes when it could have been spending on TV and radio advertising for John McCain.

I feel sorry for those republicans and C4Lers in FL, that party is terribly dirty. That behavior would be un-thought of up here in the Hamp.

Greer continues to spend like a potentate, cutting low level staff positions while dropping $8,000 at super luxury hotel The London in New York City, a five-star hotel brought to us by London celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey. Greer likes the presidential suite, which goes for $1,800 a night.

More outrageous are the $277,787 in unitemized American Express bills and over $5,000 for American Express finance charges. Claims by RPOF officials that these bills are itemized in state filings under “Other Expenditures” are not totally accurate. Some American Express charges are disclosed while others are not in an effort by the Chairman to continue to hide his opulent lifestyle at GOP expense.

Jim Greer insists on taking private jets and aircraft when much less expensive commercial flights are convenient and affordable. Total costs for luxury charter aircraft was $135,890, but who flew where and how much it cost are carefully buried.
