Both Republicans. Peg ran three times before for Governor. Toomey was a Rep in the 15th District. Toomye ran for Senate in 2005 against Specter and lost by 1.7%, the Club for Growth even spent 2 million dollars for him on advertising. Peg Luskik has run as a Constitution Party candidate before.

Conclusion: libertarian-leaning conservative, though has many Neoconservative beliefs, pro drug war, pro-war, bad on civil liberties, was President of Club for Growth but they only gave him a C, votes against gays, voted for Iraq war, is a social conservative, better than Arlen Specter, not as good as Peg Luskik, GOP establishment/Bush worked against him in his Senate run, good rating from Republican Liberty Caucus, bad rating from ACLU, 100% Pro-life and against abortion,

Article:
Peg Luksik Will Challenge Specter In Primary

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A conservative activist who ran for Pennsylvania governor three times in the 1990s says she will challenge Arlen Specter for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate next year.
Peg Luksik, of Johnstown, said Tuesday she is not deterred by the prospective candidacy of former congressman Pat Toomey. Toomey, a fellow conservative who narrowly lost to Specter in the 2004 primary, says he is considering running in 2010.
Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. She says it's up to Toomey to decide whether he wants to risk dividing the GOP's conservative wing and allowing Specter to win a sixth term.
Luksik is best known as an anti-abortion activist.
The 79-year-old Specter has clashed repeatedly with the party's more conservative members.

So Peg Luskik challenging Tooney in the R primary. Does Luskik have a snowball's chance in hell?

No matter what, we want Specter out. He's powerful, ancient and now he's helping the majority party log-roll.

I hate to be cynical here, but I think we lose biggest if Specter is still standing after 2010. I can't imagine Tooney losing the primary, especially if he's already come within less than 2% of beating Specter before.

Here's what I think the best strategy is:

1) Encourage Luksik to try and define one or more issues with her campaign and move Tooney in our direction publicly if at all possible.

2) Put any resources C4L-PA wants to expend on this (informally, of course) into (gasp!) Specter's Democratic challenger - thereby making Specter spend valuable early dollars fighting off another D instead of preparing for the general.

3) When both Specter and Tooney are facing off on the general ballot, have C4L-PA's PAC (which you should already be forming) run damning ads and efforts against Specter and the things he's voted for. Structure the entire effort, as best as possible, to force Tooney to publicly make statements backing as many of our core positions as possible.

I think that's the best way we can simultaneously affect the race, get Specter out and introduce our issues into the fight, moving the (hopeful) winner to publicly support our goals.

Once Tooney is elected, we ride him on all our issues, battering him when he F's up, rewarding him when he's good. A smart Senator would want to secure an easy re-election...

What is there about Toomey that's libertarian leaning in any sense? He's a total fraud. The irony of the months leading up to Specter's bolting the GOP is that between Specter and Toomey on the issues, it's practically a toss up. And if you go by their records from the period when both were in office, and Toomey voted for Bush's prescription entitlement and Specter voted against it, Toomey might even be the worse of the two. The whole idea that Toomey's the conservative answer to the centrist Specter is a myth propounded by the establishment of the GOP to hide how much it is the same as the Dems. What's the point in voting in the GOP primary for someone to go up against Specter, if that someone is someone who's for all intents and purposes the same as Specter?

Luksik is far better. I don't live in PA, but if I did I'd vote for her without regard for what the pundits say about who can win, just like I did in the presidential primary in 2008.

I've been told Toomey is a lower-key Rick Santorum.

Fail.

I don't know enough about Peg Luskik to make a decision on her.

I disagree. Let him waste some of his advertising dollars on trying to sway this site.
