I live in the PNW, and this heat wave comes on the heels of one of the coldest winters up here, although being born here in 1951, this is not that big of deal. My garden is loving it!

well it definitely has not been too hot here..

there's a lot of rain and cloudy weather, and the average temp might be 80 degrees on a good day.

weird.

We are having record lows in Louisiana.
It is about to be august, and daytime highs are around 75f.

It feels nice.

Urban Heat Island effect . Record high temperatures in asphalt and concrete are more likely than record lows. If these records are broken in Seattle and Portland, it is not as big of a deal than if they were recorded in the middle of the country. When I drive towards work, the farmland is about 6 degrees less, than towards the city. It is like this in most metropolitan areas.

I'm from the east coast and now live in Western Washington. I complain every year about how much the temperature drops at night in the summer, how late summer actually hits, how early it goes away and how it usually barely ever gets much above 80. I like it hot.

So yay global warming! (to play along with the eco-commies)

Heh I thought of temp workers too, temperature never crossed my mind.

Anyway, I like the nice heat. Summers are great here, winters suck though.

I think they recorded 106 at the airport, but I don't think of Portland overall as being asphalt and concrete - there are very large wooded areas (mostly on the western half of the city) with hills and mountains. I live in the western half surrounded by trees, only 2 miles from downtown, and it's pretty damn hot

Beng 2 miles away from downtown city is not far away enough to negate the effects of urban heat island even with the trees. More like 15 to 20 miles away if there isn't alot of development will probably negate most of it. In some cities, it may take as much as 40 miles. In my situation, it takes about 30 miles for the temperature to drop about 5 to 10 degrees and this is driving southward.

I guess it depends on the development of Portland in the last 100 years. Are there alot more people, buildings, pavement, cars, etc. If there are, than the temperature will increase, esp if it was relatively undeveloped at one time. This is a seperate issue altogether, but for some reason, the global warming alarmists don't factor this in.

it's f#cking hot. no AC and living on the top floor - it got up to 93 inside (low of 81 inside) yesterday and today it's going to be hotter. right now (noon) it's 89 inside and 97 outside.

i'm lucky to live on a lake, but the lake temp is up to 78 so it's not as refreshing as it usually is. the guy that wrote about the cold winter and all the snow is correct, and while it's too goddamn hot, most aren't complaining out loud.

this last year has been like living in Minnesota w/o the proper insulation or cooling equipment.

I'm from Centralia. 105* today. Halfway between Seattle and Portland, in the largest agricultural county in Western Washington State.
