"Toward the end, we were so mad and tired and frustrated," said Daniel Freeman. "You came too close, we lit you up. You didn't stop, we ran your car over with the Bradley," an armored fighting vehicle.

With each roadside bombing, soldiers would fire in all directions "and just light the whole area up," said Anthony Marquez, a friend of Freeman in the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment. "If anyone was around, that was their fault. We smoked 'em."

yup, didn't read the article but I have heard 1st hand how they would carry shovels so they could toss them next to a civilian they murdered so that it would look like the civilian had been burying an IED...

At two brigades per month, there should be 30,000 less in Iraq today.

But stupid people elected a LIAR.

Why are we in Southern Afghanistan again? Better yet, why are we in Afghanistan at all?

Don't you know that it's okay for Muslims to kill people? Because they usually kill those pesky Jews who control the country and make us give money to Israel, or evil American imperialists. Muslims have never committed any atrocity!

WTH does this have to do with the topic?

WTH does this have to do with the topic?

It has to do with the fact that many on this forum would characterize American servicemembers as murderous thugs, or Israel as a bunch of genocidal maniacs, constantly scheming to steal their money, while disregarding all of the Islamic violence prevalent throughout the world. I guess it stems from the disproportionate number of Troofers on the forum.

Note: I'm not a Zionist per se, nor do I support the "War on Terror", as it is currently being played out.

Going after terrorists who actually attack us, or are planning to. As opposed to invading countries with no intention of harming US citizens and nation-building, which gives al Qaeda et al. just what they want: an opportunity to kill American troops via "insurgencies" and effective recruiting tools.

Stop with the collectivism. WE are not in Iraq or Afghanistan.
This is exactly why democracy doesn't work.

I characterize the political leadership as murderous thugs not the troops. As far as Israel, all I can do is look at the evidence and make my own decision based on evidence not propaganda.

I guess "carpet bombing" is how you would deal with terrorism. We've only caused the deaths of 400,000 Iraqi citizens.

I think you're just making the assertion that you dislike Muslims. All humans engage in warfare. In this country it's not Muslims we have a problem with, it's "Christian" extremists that plant the bombs here isn't it.

You obviously don't understand the full reason of WHY we are being attacked. Listen to Ron Paul more and do more research. You aren't there yet.

I'll start with the word imperialism, and now if your brain is shutting off from cognitive dissonance, you may reply with a bunch of BS about muslims being violent.

I know why they attacked us, because we've been meddling in their affairs for far too long. We need to quit antagonizing the inherently violent Muslims. However, we can't sit by and not punish the groups responsible for killing Americans. That does not involve invading Iraq or nation building in Afghanistan.

Eh, colour me skeptical but this article is too convenient for the DHS 'our soldiers are now homegrown right-wing terrorists' bullshit cooked up by the Bush Administration and then passed along to Obama.

I agree, regardless of why they attacked, those that did it must be dealt with. And not entire countries, but those who are behind it. And for our part we ought to seriously change the way we interact with the middle east, as in get out and stay out.

Well my position on foreign affairs would be the same except that I am convinced 9/11 was a lie. As for our troops doing terrible things.. well that's war and that's why I don't support wars unless I'm sure we've been attacked first. Also all the troop bashing is unnecessary.. the private contractors do much more terrible things and have no laws to bind them plus they get paid double. ;) Not to mention there are more private contractors in Iraq than U.S soldiers. It's a killer business.

This topic illustrates why it's never right to implicitly support someone's actions by waving the flag and saying, "I support our country, right or wrong" as Palin did recently. Nonsense. One supports their country based on principle and if citizens do wrong, then the wrong needs exposing and correcting. In the case of undeclared wars, the number of people doing wrong is staggering: the politicians who send the troops to undeclared wars, the people who support undeclared wars, the troops who ignore rules of engagement, and potentially the rules of engagement themselves. The list is nearly endless.

Marquez was the first in his brigade to kill someone after an Iraq tour. In 2006, he used a stun gun to shock a drug dealer in Widefield, Colo., in a dispute over a marijuana sale, then shot and killed him.

Since the game is cut and paste from an article to put across the point you want. "Gotta support the marijuana users!"

I'm having a hard time seeing how he's trolling. Seems to me that there are some people here who are just frustrated that he has a few different opinions about things. To an extent, I do agree that there's a lot of unnecessary demonization of troops. I've met some soldiers who were definitely downright chilling (it seems to typically be the young guns who are so amped on the idea of killing), but I've also met a great deal of soldiers for whom killing wasn't the objective.

I'd sooner go after the kings than the pawns.

From another thread, a federal grant is funding creation of new special courts to try war veterans. Seems like pretty unusual step:

New court in Colorado will handle criminal cases against war veterans

By Associated Press
July 22, 2009

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A new state court will open near Fort Carson next month to handle returning war veterans accused of serious civilian crimes.

El Paso County District Judge Ron Crowder — a Vietnam veteran and a general in the National Guard — says the court will provide both immediate consequences and strong mental-health support for defendants.

It will handle only felony cases for now. It's funded by a federal grant.

Denver hopes to open a veterans court next year.
