We can only hope all of these technical glitches are happening because so many donations are coming in that the counters are having a hard time keeping track!!! That's probably wishful thinking, but it's my only comfort right now. :D

well, if they are using a flatfile txt file - and they don't have locks on it when it is opened etc.. then yes, screwy things can happen... but that is sorta a lackey way of doing things for a project like this.. so I can't imagine they would do that.

also. someone MIGHT submit a bad charge, the donation 'flash' gets updated.. but the reconciliation of the donation comes back as verified or not... then the file gets read, flash gets updated..

so, it might just be that some charges are going thru that are bunk.. then when the payment auth is denied, the flash is updated with new "lower" amount.

we jumped like 60k in 3 hours (average of 20k an hour) between when the first problem happened (the counter went down) and it got back up....i figured this was too big a jump as we were averaging 8k an hour prior to it and that's the general pace we are on since things got fixed.

we've been consistantly pacing at around 150k per day since this whole thing started

I think it's because a few over-excited people donated over the legal limit... maybe a lot over the legal limit... and the numbers were adjusted accordingly.
