Okay, before we run wild exerting ourselves and speculating, let's get some confirmation from the Lawson camp that he's interested. Otherwise we're just wasting our time. Anybody here have an "in" with Lawson & Co?

There were articles a few weeks ago where he was quoted as saying that he would indeed run in 2010...I'll try to dig those up. But I know for a fact that he is running.

If any of you are actually involved with the campaign, I'd love to come down to the district and canvass or do whatever is needed on the ground.

Here was the source:

Republicans are lining up to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. David Price next year.

B.J. Lawson, a Cary businessman and former physician, who lost to Price in November said he plans to make another bid.

Lawson, who said he will formally announce his candidacy on his Web site next week, said his 37 percent showing was strong considering the Democratic-leaning district. He said one of the problems in defeating Price is that the Republicans put up a different opponent every two years.

But Lawson will likely have competition in a GOP primary.

Frank Roche, 46, a semiretired financial industry executive from Apex, said he plans to run as well.

Roche said he hoped to win over support of more traditional conservatives, who may not be comfortable with some of Lawson's more Libertarian leanings.

I've only posted these articles 6 or 7 times on the forum -- including the thread right below where you posted this one.

He's been kind of AWOL. He could at least start blogging again. I think he's doing some alternative currency stuff down there.

He should seriously run for Senate in 2010.

I disagree. While Senate is a statewide office and thus he would stand a better chance of winning the general election, Richard Burr, the Senator up for re-election, is running again. So BJ would just get killed off in the primary and do the movement no good.

In the CD4 race, BJ is up against an entrenched Democrat in a D-leaning district, but he's a strong contender. His primary opponent is a nobody, and BJ has enough ammo to get past him - i.e. strongest fundraising and vote totals of any GOP candidate in recent memory in the CD4 race. Plus, based on BJ and Price's last go-around, BJ doing a rematch makes him even stronger - his name recognition is higher than last time, and the media might give the race more coverage, especially if the initial polling is at or closer than the results of the 2008 race (which was 65%/35%).

No he shouldn't.

He can actually win a house seat.
