Dr. Long is a prominent Austrian economist, and a professor of philosophy at Auburn University. He teaches at the Mises Institute as well.

Apparently, the Feds have taken all the money out of both his checking and savings accounts, as well as his mother's account, and is now overdrawn by $8,000. They claim he owes taxes from a decade ago.

He is now left without any money until his salary at the college begins in September. He is asking for help.

a left-libertarian market anarchist in social theory.

What's a left-libertarian market anarchist? Emphasis on "left".

So.. the States are strapped for cash... and are going over all their files, with a magnifying glass to get people who cannot prove they paid or not..

Or.. they're checking out all the "anti tax" folk extra carefully...

I wouldn't put anything past a gang of thieves writ large.. would you ?

Sounds like a levy. His mother's account too? He might have been on her account.

As he is a professor, I doubt he even falls under the laws for an IRS levy.

He can sue to get the funds returned.

I "think" that is what the ones who want a stateless society mixed with other "Utopian" views support. Other than that,I got nothing.:p This site looks like it might hold an answer but just started reading it myself.

Honestly, I'm not totally familiar with Long's particular views, but maybe this will help.

Rothbard's initial leftward impulse was maintained by Karl Hess (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/wiki/Karl_Hess), picked up by activists like Samuel Edward Konkin III and Roderick Long. These left-libertarians agree with Rothbard that presently-existing capitalism (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/wiki/Capitalism) does not even vaguely resemble a free market (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/wiki/Free_market), and that most presently-existing corporations (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/wiki/Corporation) are the beneficiaries and chief supporters of statism. By this line of reasoning, libertarianism should make common cause with the anti-corporate left. Rapprochement with the left has led many left-libertarians to reject some traditional right-libertarian stances, such as hostility to labor unions (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/wiki/Labor_union) and support for intellectual property (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/wiki/Intellectual_property), or even to limit valid real-property rights to use-and-occupancy.

Maybe we're considered left.

Honestly, I don't think its worth distinguishing. The differences are so tiny its negligible.

Left is used meaning old school left...just like Thomas Jefferson called himself a liberal.

The term dates back to the French revolutionary era. Anti-establishment politicians sat on the left; the establishment sat on the right.

Some of these "left-libertarians" think Walmart is bad... some of them are kinda kooky.

Anyway, this is terrible. Roderick Long is part of the Mises Institute group, and I hear his name come up a lot in Austrian circles.

Looks like he made an update, and this is about an old, private bank, credit card debt, not the IRS debiting his account.
