I think we forget that the people who owned slaves in the 19th century are the same people who run corporations today.

BS. The north was slave free and prosperous before slavery was ended. In fact, i believe it was pressure from the north to end the availability of free labor, because it created unfair labor advantages.

The north was prosperous because of protectionist tarifs that hurt the southern economy. The people in power in the north only used abolition to gain more power. Lincoln himself didn't give a damn about the slaves, he just wanted the union to maintain intact.

Yeah, I'm speaking very generally. The mentality of the slave owners is still around in many corporations today. The don't see their workers as human beings, they see them as machines to be run at the lowest cost of operation.
