Will you help Rand this week? Come to KY!

The Rand Paul Summer Vacation is happening this week! Will you come to KY and help campaign for Rand Paul?

If so join the Rand Paul Summer Vacation Facebook Group
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=81282020278

WHEN: July 21st to July 28th

WHERE: Boone County, Kentucky. We will be operating out of a hotel near the Cincinnati Airport, likely in Florence, KY. Final details on the hotel will be provided shortly, and will depend on the number of committed volunteers.

WHAT: This is a grassroots effort to bring volunteers from across the country to Kentucky to campaign for the Rand Paul for Senate campaign.

During the full 6 days of campaigning available, we will focus on 3 major tasks.

1) Door to door campaigning, also known as canvassing - we will being knocking on doors from 9AM to 12PM. We will have literature printed to hand out to each person/house we come in contact with. We will record information on each address and compile a database of potential donors, voters, etc.

2) Sign bombs - We will make signs and place them at busy intersections throughout Boone County. This will take place between 2PM - 5PM each full campaign day.

3) Phone banking - We will be making phone calls to registered Republicans in key locations throughout the state. A script will be provided. Our goal here is to increase name recognition and identify potential voters and donors. We will phone bank from 6PM - 8PM each day.

Thanks for promoting this Matt.

For those that have money but do not have the time to come down and volunteer, please donate to the chipin. We need funds in order to make the impact that is needed.

I'm not sure how effective knocking on doors from 9am-noon will be, unless you're just dropping off info w/o discussion. Also, that's very short notice.

We canvassed from approximately 9 AM to 3 PM in Iowa for Ron, and there was a decent amount of people at home in the morning. That said, a majority of the homes will result in a simple lit drop. The majority of our contacts will be made through phone calls.

As far as the short notice, this has actually been planned for a few months. The facebook group has over 150 members, but unfortunately I fear a lot of people joined without ever intending to volunteer.

So are we going to have day by day status reports, or an end of vacation summary?

Four of us volunteers arrived today at our hotel in Richwood, Kentucky. I left from Indiana at 6 AM and I picked up the first volunteer at the Cincinnati Airport at 10:30 AM. He is an intern for CFL in DC, but is originally from Washington state. After getting to the hotel, I designed the 4x6 flyer that we will be handing out during our door-to-door efforts. Around 7 PM, our second volunteer arrived from Buffalo, New York. We then met with a local supporter with that offered a ton of insight in the area and hooked us up with a lot of contacts.

After our chat at the waffle house, I headed back to the airport to pick up another volunteer, who flew in from California. All four of us are staying in a room with two very narrow "double" beds. The next few days should be interesting. :D

Operating costs thus far:
$400.26 - 7 night stay at Econo Lodge
$550.00 - 10,000 4x6 postcards
$21.00 - groceries

I've received about $175 in donations from the ChipIn (http://vacations4rand.chipin.com/rand-pauls-summer-vacation) and about $100 from the volunteers to help pay for the hotel.

I'll start a blog or begin posting on the ChipIn page to keep everyone updated.

Yeah, it would have been a bit cheaper than Econo Lodge. I just checked it out on the web site and it would have been $250 a week.. but that's before taxes and other fees. We still probably could have saved $100. Still, the 10-20 minutes of driving to Richwood and resulting costs in gas money would make it close to even.

We'll be doing at least 2 more vacations before the primary, and I think I will go with that hotel.

BTW Eric, do you have access to any voter registration data as a CFL coordinator? The list we were supposed to get fell through, so we are looking to secure a list for making phone calls.

Call me if you have something we can use:

I'll see what I can find. But I don't think I have any of that personally.
