"that we will break the old gridlock and guarantee that every American…will have decent, quality health care as a fundamental right and not just a privilege."

Why doesn't he say that everyone has the right to fly without airplanes too? And that everyone has the right to a great life. Government can't guarantee any of these things. Even countries like Sweden that formally guarantees everyone healthcare, can still not provide it. Many people are simply faced with doctors saying there's no point in getting in line for treatment since they won't get it anyway.
I think US politicians could benefit from actually visiting this country, talking with people here and see how it's like..

Yeah but Mr Kennedy will still have better care than "every American" I bet.
These types of such hypocritical greedy selfish dishonest scumbags.
Go ahead Kennedy, show you're above that and get out of your senate health care and retirement plans and go solely into public health plans and social security.

How can something that is scarce, and therefore must be rationed, be a fundamental right? Rights are universal. Did cavemen living 20000 years ago have a "right" to modern medical care? How much? Needless to say, those "universal healthcare" states seem to have an awful lot of trouble "providing" that right to everyone equally. They have about as much trouble getting their right as we do our privilege.
