Rep. Paul doesn't plan to see 'Bruno' despite cameo

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), the 73-year-old former presidential candidate who was conned into appearing in comedian Sasha Baron Cohen's latest movie, isn't planning on seeing "Bruno."

"I haven't seen it," Paul told The Hill on Friday. "That [scene] doesn't exactly reflect my best moments."

Paul sat for an interview with Cohen's character, a gay Austrian television host, in early 2008. As they set up, a light blows and Bruno convinces Paul to wait in another room while the crew deals with the technical difficulties.

Once in the room, Bruno is seen coming on to Paul, who sticks to reading a newspaper. But once the character drops his pants, Paul storms out, cutting short the interview.

About a year and a half later, Paul laughed when asked if he was going to see the film, which hit U.S. theaters last week.

"I don't remember getting any money for it," Paul said.

The two-time White House candidate, who raised more than twice what former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) pulled in during the 2008 presidential primaries, said that instead of catching a flick, he is more likely to be riding his bike, something he called "my tranquilizer."

"I'd rather ride a bike in the rain than exercise indoors," Paul said. "I do it more for mental relaxation than for cardiovascular."

The notoriously libertarian Paul, who likes to say "Freedom is popular," doesn't bother with a bike helmet while he gets his exercise, though.

"It's inconvenient from me to wear a helmet regardless of the law. I don't wear a helmet. Even though if you asked me for medical advice, [I'd say] it's probably a good idea."

More of The Hill's interview with Paul, including his thoughts on the thousands of donors and followers his campaign attracted and his proposal to audit the Federal Reserve Board, will appear in The Hill next week.

I won't watch it either. Cohen's brand of humor isn't funny to me, never was.

Yeah, same here. Not amused by the whole thing.

I don't blame him. He would rather watch Gone with the Wind.

I'm not going to watch a movie chock full of exposed dicks. Sacha tried too hard on this one.

I do like his Bruno/Borat skits, though.

I found Borat funny because he didn't go overboard with it.

I watched Bruno last night and really wished I hadn't.

It did feel like he tried hard. I dont see how they got away with rating it only R.

Most of the movie consisted of pornographic material with a few laughs spread in between. But overall it was just an uncomfortable experience. By the end of the movie more than half the people had walked out before.

Watch the Bruno interviews and the trailers if you find Cohen funny. The movie will just disgust and disappoint.

Good for him. I finally got around to watching Bruno yesterday. I'd prefer an hour of George Carlin to him about 100 times over. The only parts that had me laughing out loud were the 15 minutes or so with the baby and interviewing parents of other babies.

"How much does your baby weigh?"

"About 30 pounds."

"Do you think you could have him lose about 10 pounds by next week?"

"Well, uh.... if that's what we have to do... Yeah, we can do that."

"Okay, are you okay with liposuction if you she doesn't lose the weight?"

"If we can't lose the weight any other way.... then yeah, that'd be fine as a last resort."
