How are the FCC qualified to determine truth from falsehood?

I think they pretty much got it this time. Sad that it's a novelty occurence.

The ministry of truth...

everyone keeps wanting to call the MSM or Old Media
or something like that... instead of calling it what it
is...

the ministry of truth.

where's montaigne when you need him?

It seems like an OK move by the FCC, but it is not. These things should be handled by the people through the courts. Civil suits.

The FCC is downright illegal under the First and Tenth Amendment. It'll be among the first to go once Ron is President.

That's ridiculous. I don't even think the FCC has jurisdiction over a cable company, only broadcast. The FCC's original role was to manage the national broadcast frequencies so multiple don't use or disrupt the same broadcast signal. I don't think a federal agency is needed for this, but if that's its original role then why are they messing with a cable company?

If MSM news programs are banned from broadcasting fake news, then what would they broadcast instead?

The FCC has no jurisdiction over cable companies.

That being said, ALL media outlets should be required to disclose ALL sources of funding. It's not so much about whether the story is "true" or "false," but rather who pays for it to be broadcast. Which could be highly interesting...

By the way... the article isn't talking about "false" news. It is talking about advertisements that are disguised as news programs.

Some of Bush's people used a commercial to promote the prescription drug plan and they formatted with fake reporters it to make it look like a legit news program.
