Innocent curiosity poll -- I swear!

If you want "other" added, please first refer back to the thread/poll title. It would be helpful, however, if you believe one of the options are a "root". For example, if you think absolutism is the root "problem" of mysticism, I'd like to know.

I would say Keynesianism.. mostly cause its central idea is that of intervention and its benefits.. in foreign affairs, at home..

considering recent history and war spending, neoconism.

I'm choosing mysticism as being the "root" of Keynesianism. :D

I chose keynesianism, but I somewhat believe it more has to do with a false belief in utilitarianism - false being that I believe true greatest good for the greatest number results from freedom and free markets, where as most people's interpetations leads to big government and sacrifice of the individual.

Of these, I would say Keynesiansim. Statism in general is the most dangerous and most evil, tho.

Mysticism if mysticism = religious fundies expanding the government for their agenda.

I put altruism, though it ought to be "False Altruism", ie giving away other people's money. Regular Altruism plays a big role as well, because it helps people to justify being victims of theft.

Mysticism. The root cause of all collectivism. I was tempted to put Keynesianism but that is a small subset of collectivism.

You forgot egalitarianism, the social philosophy of advocating the removal of all inequalities (and therefor differences) between people.

And collectevism is pretty broad which would have covered some of the other isms, I would have voted for it had it been an option.

Just voted for Keynesianism, because cloaking the Fed in legitimacy is doing a lot to help the government expand.

You forgot egalitarianism.

Perfect. This is it exactly.

What about progressivism, both in the governmental sense and in the Whig theory of history sense. Also Yankee Evangelism? Also Post-Millennial Pietism?

None of the Above. It's Collectivism that's killed us.

Absolutism. the divine right of kings.
we once rejected the same, then came
a string of petty tyrants. our gov't rose up
and expanded so we all could defeat the same...

Ignoramousism.

In seriousness, though, no small part of it was accomplished by playing relativism off against absolutism, I do believe. Morality may be absolute, but special circumstances can sure be used to nibble away at the corners of it.
