Hi everyone!

My first post here.

I have been noticing more and more that people tend to be confused about the meanings/definitions of "Libertarian," "Independent," and "Non-Partisan."

I thought it would be helpful to post the links to the platforms of each of the first two, and a link to Wikipedia on the third. This, because it appears that the voting public seems to be experiencing a wave of defections from the two "false left/right" major political parties, preferring to be 'independent' of either of them, one might use the term, "centrist."

Understandably, most people equate a 'centrist' with the word, "Independent." As it turns out, however, the position of the formal platform of the Independent Party can hardly be regarded as "centrist" in outlook.

So here are links to the platforms of each, for your personal consideration:

The Libertarian Party Platform

The Independent Party Platform

Wikipedia on "Non-Partisan"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-partisan_

Now, just a hint:

When going to the ballot box as an official 'Non-Partisan,' one can cast one's vote for any one candidate regardless of that candidate's party association. Therefore, the "Non-Partisan" classification is the true centrist position.

I'm fairly certain that when most people call themselves Independents, they aren't referring to an obscure third-tier political party, but are rather referring to their independence of political parties.

Welcome to the forums.

Regarding independent, I don't think it's referring to any political party.

most independents i know are more LP/Ron Paul Republican in their beliefs. They do not want to be republican and i cannot blame them!! trying to get them to join the republican party is like trying to get them to make a deal with the devil!!

The first libertarians were actually libertarian communists or anarchists in the left sense. We hijacked the term from them.
