Can we all get on the same page on this? Can those asking the questions about jobs on the Hill ask the CORRECT questions as they relate to job creation via the 'stimulus' packages being spent against our will. To hammer home the point that government jobs are a detriment to our economy and private sector jobs are a benefit we need to have our politicians ask "How many private sector jobs is the stimulus creating?" Because we all know that this administration is hell bent on creating a larger voter base for his agenda by hiring as many government employees in agencies like the EPA and Energy Department.

The question should always be "How many private sector jobs is the stimulus creating?" Or "How many private sector jobs has the stimulus created?" This puts them in a defensive position and we all know they have nothing to stand on in that realm.

It doesn't matter how many jobs.... they aren't permanent because they weren't created by actual market demand.

It's all just more malinvestment - a mini bubble inside a bigger bust.

I would add "What kind of jobs?"

This can be a factor even moreso than the Gov/Private issue, because many people will say "woohoo a Government job with benefits!" (Though they obviously have very little idea of how it all works in DC. I digress.)

If the Government (and the states) just build and repave roads, that's nice for construction workers. Most of us are not construction workers. Many of us aren't really qualified to run the equipment, and don't want to work in those sorts of fields. Beyond that, the future of a nation is not built on a huge store of construction workers. It's not like China is going to see that, and start employing gangs of Americans to come over and make roads for them, and little by little we will start building roads all over the world for fun and profit. They are jobs that have a limited shelf life.

If the Government adds to its agencies, it will likely do so via Temp agencies and outside contractors. These are jobs that largely carry little/no benefits, and they are not particularly safe jobs. Lenders don't like loaning out money to people who are only promised to work a few more months or years. Those jobs also very rarely have retirement plans, which means more Social Security leeches in the future. Temporary and Contract workers tend to live in a central location and commute out to their jobs, which means an awful lot of pollution, overcrowding on the Metro systems, etc..

So, what kind of jobs are being created? What sort of businesses are being encouraged to thrive? Where does it put us in the present and in the future?

Private sector jobs produce stuff, a pizza parlor makes pizza, and auto dealer sells cars that GM, FORD, and Chrysler produce.

Government jobs don't produce anything. What would China or Japan want with an American Driver's License or a Birth Certificate ?

To have their people become natural born citizens in order to vote to loot the remaining wealth of the country. ;)

That's part of the point of cornering them into admitting it. But thanks for making a valid point in this argument. If they have to answer my questions they'll have to explain how or why, then people that don't understand this will see or figure it out for themselves.

You might not see it this way but the government does make demands of the economy{not the kind I want} they need paperclips too.
