For the 5 minutes of cable news I watched today, this is what I heard some talking head on MSNBC speculating. Is this really possible when LAPD has warned people to stay home and only 17000 "tickets" for MJ's memorial service have been offered?

He has huge worldwide following and he may be "bigger than life" as they put it but is Michael Jackson really "bigger than Obama" also on US landscape?

Michael Jackson's talent, etc., made an impression on people. That's one group.

Michael Jackson's freakishness, etc., piqued people's curiosity. That's another group.

Some people are bored and want to be where other big crowds of people are so they can maybe get on TV or snag a souvenier or whatever else. That's yet another group.

Some people want to cater to all three of the groups above by selling tee shirts and other novelties. Yet another group.

I will give the state of California this: most are aghast at the notion of paying police to guard this mess. It will involve many officers, overtime, etc. coming from a state that is already in ruins. It won't make them popular with people who think Michael Jackson deserves whatever the world can throw at him (only after death though?), but at least people are speaking out and saying "this is a crock of crap".

And some people want to score with the mourning MJ fans before they return to their senses. There's millions of them so at least some of them have to be hot.

Dang, we could have had MJ as prez!

I mean he's more popular than BO.
He's bankrupt, so he obviously knows as much about the economy as BO.
He's done concert tours around the world, so must know as much about foreign policy as BO.
I don't believe he's a socialist - so that's a major improvement.
and best of all, he's dead - so we'd have someone like Bill Cosby as prez right now!

Man did we mess up!

That too, but I discounted it, because statistically you're more likely to end up next to someone like Jesse Jackson, Liza Minelli (sp), or Elizabeth Taylor... or Elizabeth Taylor's dog. There are going to be a lot of celebs or former celebs or God knows what to call them, and a lot of boo-hooing people in MJ costumes. I'm not sure it's quite the atmosphere for a booty call :p
