Well would you expect a statist to pledge allegiance to a republic?

Well the Pledge was created by an ultra-statist.

When I was young and believed this to be a FREE country. I was GLAD and PROUD to salute the flag and say the pledge.

And I still am. I just think of our founding fathers and men like Ron Paul when I do.

The pledge is a good thing. Kids need to say it more often and understand what it means.

I pledge allegiance to the flag, and the U.S. of A. and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands.

LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

I would disagree wholeheartedly. We fought a revolution so that we would not have to pledge allegiance to a supreme leader. There is absolutely no difference between saying the pledge or singing God save the King/Queen.

Moreover, the Pledge is a socialist/collectivist/tyrannical trap. Nothing more than conditioning the masses to give up their life, liberty and money to the state....all in the name of the greater good. No thank you.

When I was a child I never understood why I had to stand and repeat these words. I thought it was ridiculous and meaningless. Now that It's been decades since I've muttered those words. I can proudly say that I do not repeat the pledge, nor do I stand. Honestly, seeing everyone stand and repeat this nonsense makes me sad because they have no idea that they are no better than the flocks of sheep that's gone before them.

We fought a revolution to stop this kind of thing and it looks like we'll have to fight another one to stop it again.

I pledge allegiance to me, myself and I.....my family and friends to a point.

I agree with you.

I posted the same video yesterday and was discouraged again by all the libertarian shitheads who think it's ok not to pledge allegiance to anything except themselves.

I used to wonder why libertarians never win elections, but now I am starting to get it. No wonder we lost the country to the socialists.

near the end, was that woman actually grabbing the guys hand to have him stop? I don't know. this is all VERY odd.

Maybe for a gaff, someone should walk in during the pledge, with a communist flag and say "This for all you democrats who refuse to pledge to the American Flag"....

Fuck the pledge of allegiance. I won't say it anymore, ever. Its socialist bullshit and its high time people started learning the truth about its origins.

How can you have individual freedom if you pledge your allegiance to the state that owns you and your belongings? This is the opposite view of the founders. If they (the founders) saw the supposed 'liberty loving' crew condoning a pledge to "the state" they would rollover in their graves.

The reason Libertarians never win election, is most true libertarians would never run for political office.

By the way, we've been a socialist country for a 100 years. Statist, liberty stealing, coercive, abusive, tyrannical big government brought to you by the Republicans and Democrats of the last century.

Things like the pledge and belief that a government of any kind is greater than the individual is the reason we've lost our country to socialists. We should state that we've lost the individual to the government, because all governments are inherently socialist.

You must have missed the picture I posted that explained how the pledge is partly responsible for bringing us into the socialist state??

Pledges of Allegiance are fundamentally unAmerican.

THATS THE POINT. The state is not SUPPOSED to own you and you are not supposed to be a slave to anyone.

You are pledging allegiance to the flag of the country that represents that! The country that represents the opposition of tyranny. The REPUBLIC for which it stands.

If you won't fight for freedom you don't deserve it. And if you wont support the flag that represents freedom you don't deserve it either.

<face palm> Fundamentally the pledge of allegiance goes against everything that the founders fought for. They didn't want to sing God save the King and I don't want to say the pledge. It's the same principle.

The unfortunate fact is that obedience to the state is what tyrannical, socialist governments want. The other unfortunate fact is that most people will sacrifice their individual freedoms, lives and money to the very state that will imprison them for the slightest infraction or disobedience to the state.

I will and have fought for my freedoms all my life. Just because you think the flag represents freedom and if I don't 'support' it that I don't deserve it, shows just how willing you are to take away my freedoms. You are no better than the state that rules you.

I think the difference here is that you need a banner/flag to represent your freedoms, even though you don't have much freedom anymore. However, the only representation I need of my freedoms is the simple fact of having them or not.

Or how the socialist state would have a more difficult time maintaining control without a pledge of allegiance. Good thing they have established that trojan horse.

I understand both yours and sandmans view. However, I side with you to an extent. I will not pledge allegiance to a state. I'll pledge allegiance to the idea of liberty and to fighting for freedom.

Yeah, I understand Sandmans view as well. It's just incompatible with true individual freedom.

The true indicator of freedom is if you have any. It doesn't lay inside a flag/banner/logo/slogan etc...

For various reasons I recently decided I would no longer say the pledge of allegiance and just stand with my hands by my side.

Thats what the flag is supposed to represent and thats why I'm proud to salute it.

Would I join this countries military NOW? No. No way in hell.

If Ron Paul was president though I would. Because I would know that I'm fighting for the right reasons. To truly defend liberty and not to spread globalism.

Thats what it represented at one time... and that time is not today. As I said, I hear what your saying... but it just doesn't jive.

The flag that stood for liberty, freedom, and justice has long been dead.

Exactly. The day after 9/11 I would have gone, or sent my kids. But after seeing what Bush did, with Iraq and just everything....my country would be better off if more of us would refuse to fight unless we were attacked.

I don't pledge, because the flag does not represent what I want it to. It is used by way too many in this country for unconstitutional, unAmerican, and downright evil things. Some people use it to think of REAL Americans, Ron Paul and such as I did when in school, but even that was a bit stupid thinking back on it. I think my actual beliefs and actions are enough to assure myself of my patriotism that I don't need to take part in a short symbolic formal public ceremony. The issue here though, is that those Democrats are resisting for the same reason I have. It doesn't represent what they want. They want fascism. SCARY!

Personally, I can't even put together a full intelligent thought within the time the pledge is said to make it worth while in the first place. I would wind up just saying the words with no meaning.
