this article got me to thinking:
Thought this deserved to be considered as more than just a healthcare issue. This is a very slippery slope we are poised upon and teetering. If verichip is investing vast amounts of money in this technology despite the continuous outcry, seems to me they have an idea there are traitors capable of enforcing its usage with just the right manipulation of public opinion.
Obama is cramming through healthcare. As an olive branch they will be streamlining medical records to eliminate unneccesary costs. If containing all of ones information on the chip is too risky, why not tag to number(internally) and centralize the information.
One example of public benefit could be during a pandemic. Let's say this swine flu turns out to be the medical 9/11. The crisis that requires a solution. Utilizing verichip, when it becomes a neccessity such as in event of a pandemic, you can be assured that taxpayer#xxxxxx has indeed taken their shots or needs to be located and quaranteed till they acquiesce. Unlike the swine flu horrors of 2009 when dissenters caused the deaths of so many innocent children (remember target range this flu is affecting) this problem can be solved by just allowing the government to protect you.
The chip will be seen as a necessity for privacy protection because they have to streamline due to the number of medical records being handled in the government run system. Better just a number than the whole record. So it will be seen as the lesser of two evils and people will convince themselves with how helpful this would be in the event of a medical emergency. Then they will add all the convenience measures such as paypass. Ugh!
With the horrifying level of draconian legislation they are currently passing, I could definately see this on the horizon...
