Looks like an interesting movie.

Meh, the name already is making me skeptical on its quality, considering the fact that no matter how idealistic it is, everyone will never all be "equal".

Edit: Wrote before I saw the trailer. Seems pretty Ayn Rand-ish. I approve.

They made Harrison Bergeron in to a movie already, I seem to remember it was pretty good. I hope this one is too.

Who knows, an imminent crash (psychological, socio-cultural, financial) might indeed help us to realize that beneath our labels, beliefs, and affiliations, we are all human, and that's what makes us equal.

Right now, some are more equal than others.

Based on the short story Harrison Bergeron by celebrated author Kurt Vonnegut, 2081 depicts a dystopian future in which, thanks to the 212th Amendment to the Constitution and the unceasing vigilance of the United States Handicapper General, everyone is finally equal... The strong wear weights, the beautiful wear masks and the intelligent wear earpieces that fire off loud noises to keep them from taking unfair advantage of their brains. It is a poetic tale of triumph and tragedy about a broken family, a brutal government, and an act of defiance that changes everything.

Featuring an original score performed by the world-renowned Kronos Quartet (Requiem for a Dream) and narration by Academy Award Nominee Patricia Clarkson (Far From Heaven, Goodnight and Good Luck), 2081 stars James Cosmo (Braveheart, Trainspotting, Narnia), Julie Hagerty (Airplane!, What About Bob?) and Armie Hammer (Justice League).

This film was made possible by a generous grant from The Moving Picture Institute and its donors.

Needs to be a couple hours, not 25 minutes. 25 minutes would be way too fast paced.

Really I'd prefer a miniseries. I like these kind of stories.

Yes, this looks promising, even if it's a short film. Hell, it's based off a short story.
The real zinger for me is the premise, ie: fine, you think everyone should be equal? Here's how it'll end. Whether or not you accept the weights, masks and earpieces they must wear as metaphors or not, the idea is still the same: The end result of all collectivist (statist, socialist, communist, fascist) systems.
Oh how the left "loves" mankind!

If it's films like these that finally pave the way for a mega trilogy version of "Atlas Shrugged," then I'm 100% for it.

Expect people who flatly deny the moral superiority of Capitalism, freedom and liberty to walk away with their minds unchanged. But, perhaps I'm too cynical.

Very much looking forward to this.

Nothing is stopping you. This is the second time this story has been turned into a film.

This one seems to be sticking to the original story. A more realistic one would use drugs to weaken and dumb down people.

There is danger in too much equilism is this is true, I'd rather live in 2009 :)

equality can be both negative and positive, which is the point of the movie, both extremes are not the best of worlds.

A more realistic one would use drugs to weaken and dumb down people.

We have a government that over-paid people to destroy perfectly good used cars.

Be careful when deciding what absurdities are more realistic when talking about the future policies of our goverment. ;)

Everyone is already equally sinful. But as for human cooperation, it only gets better and better in times of prosperity, but in hard times people revert to the law of the jungle.

George Orwell was a socialist, too.

Socialists are wrong about a great many things - but not all of them are idiots or fools.

George Orwell was a socialist, too.

Socialists are wrong about a great many things - but not all of them are idiots or fools.

He was also strongly influenced by Communism and Anarchism when he was involved in the Spanish Civil War. (Almost died for it)

He was also strongly influenced by his time spent as a police officer in Burma.

I think Orwell was a "Truth seeker". I wouldn't label him as a Socialist or a Cop, etc.
because I think his philosophy was ever evolving as he learned and explored life.
