Some are saying it will have a tougher time in the Senate...is this true?

EDIT: http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/20090626/cap-and-trade-vote-results-final.htm

Nice to see Kucinich voted no. Why did 8 repubs vote yes? wtf... I am so sad and angry at the same time.

Once its Porked up, it'll probably pass.

The Texas Nationalist Movement says this is a good reason to Secede from the Union!

It had a considerable amount of opposition from the democrats in the house (compared with the stimulus bill anyway), so it should be interesting. What's really disappointing is that it only passed by a margin of one vote. A 'no' vote from just one person (like one of the 8 neocons who voted for it) would have made the difference.

I thought it passed by a margin of 7 votes. So if all the GOP traitors had voted against it, it would have failed by one vote (which it would not have, because there were a couple of Dems that did not vote that would have been waterboarded into voting).

If it gets amended in the Senate, doesn't it have to go back to the House again? That might be nice as people would have time to bitch out the traitors of both parties who voted for it yesterday.

I called Mccaskill and her aid said she would be voting against it. Can't imagine Byrd being for it, and if Inhofe gets a shot he'll filibuster the fuck out of it.

Nevada has to pull on the stops on telling Harry Reid heck no. He doesn't want egg on his face if he can't get it to pass. Ensign has his problems and needs to be told no in big numbers.

Nevada needs to come out of the woodwork on this mess. I wonder how many casino lights will be on in town if this bill passes. They are hurting now let alone a carbon tax for all the lights they use.

Here were the 8 neocon sellouts that voted for this bill. Three of them were New Jersey representatives.

Mary Mack (CA), Mike Castle (DE), Mark Kirk (IL), John McHugh (NY), Frank LoBlondo (NJ), Lenoard Lance (NJ), Dave Reichert (WA), and Chris Smith (NJ)

The economy is more important right now.

I left some voicemails for my senators. I would advise everyone to do the same.

We can't sit around anymore.

I'm sure they'll turn down their lobbyist offers, special privileges, and insider deals as soon as they hear your voicemail. Hell, why wouldn't he? People love to forgo opportunities to get rich and powerful.

Thank you for contacting me regarding climate change legislation and "green jobs" in the 111th Congress. I appreciate your comments and welcome the opportunity to respond.

I believe global climate change threatens our health, environment, and national security. Congress needs to implement meaningful reform that addresses this issue as soon as possible. Drafting a responsible measure that makes both significant reductions in carbon emissions and maintains a strong U.S. economy will be difficult, but it is a task my colleagues and I are committed to.

Regarding carbon emissions and potential “cap-and-trade” legislation, I agree that something must be done to protect and preserve our environment for future generations. However, as an elected representative for all Missourians, I will always seek to protect my constituents from undue hardship and ensure that the federal government will spend their hard-earned taxpayer dollars wisely. That is why, as we continue the debate on climate change legislation, I will be working hard to include safeguards that minimize costs, keep government accountable and prevent harm to the U.S. economy.

Working families will be significantly affected by climate change legislation, so any bill addressing this issue should provide finanical protection to avoid passing all costs on to consumers. There must be a cushion to offset rising energy costs and provisions that protect American jobs from international competitors that do not face the same environmental constraints. Strong climate change legislation must also spread the burden of rising energy costs evenly throughout the country, rather than disproportionately affecting one region over another. Additionally, the green jobs created by such legislation must be ones that are available to the already skilled workers of Missouri.

My colleagues and I have already taken a good first step on the way to curbing carbon emissions by passing comprehensive energy legislation into law in December 2007. This bill is expected to remove 500 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from the air through improved energy efficiency standards. However, we need to do more. Further investment in clean energy sources along with responsible climate change legislation will drastically reduce carbon emissions and start our country down a cleaner, economically stronger path, including the path to green jobs for Missouri residents.

My colleagues and I will continue to pursue legislation that will achieve real emissions reductions and still protect our nation's economy and Missouri jobs.

Thank you again for contacting me about this very important issue and please do not hesitate to let me know if I can address any other issues that might be important to you.

All best,
Senator Claire McCaskill

There might be some hope. Harry fighting to stay in office. Look at his approval rating at the lowest yet. 51 percent don't approve of what he is doing.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1007/6544.html

Sorry, just now saw it was an old article. I hope the percent is higher now. He still is up for election next year.

He is up for re election next year. If Nevada would burn his fax and telephone lines on the cap and trade bill we might have a chance.

Where is our Nevada group to hum his lines against this bill? Also, if they get a few more percent against him, they can eject him next year.

Math Fail.

It just takes 4 Republicans to change their votes, cause then it would go from 219-212 to 215-216.

Great on the math. Do need to allow for arm twisting of Democrats who voted no the first time.

Better to try and get this killed in the Senate.

I fear that by "do nothing" you mean "do way, way too much." If only they would do nothing....

Follow the trail of money... maybe this gang of 8 has plenty of GREEN coming their way. Those 8 have to be watched closely, but it's apparent they are FOR SALE and were bought off for re-elections, future jobs at green contracted companies, or some other money making/career cronysm.

The Cap and Trade bill, whether it's amended to add more legislation or not, will be passed. The bailout bill had a huge outcry, yet they passed it. This bill has environmentalists working around the clock, calling into the offices of our representative and convincing them to vote yes. The loud supporters of this bill outnumber the loud opponents (people like us).

I have no hope. :(

The fucking ideologues are batshit crazy. Seriously, if they want to save the world, can't they wait 5 fucking years before enacting something like this rather than insuring that we can't have any real economic recovery without increasing the cost of operating of every fucking business in this country?

There is a chance the Cap and Trade house votes can be changed! Eight (8) Republicans voted for this bill and two (2) abtained, but they can change their votes if they do it before July 2. Even though none of them are likely your Representative, contact them anyway! Only seven (7) need to switch!

There is a FREE Fax service that converts a specific email address to a fax, then sent as a fax to the specific Congressman.

http://www.congressfax.com/

You cannot "group" the email address and send out one message - the email addresses must be sent individually. All the Congressperson's district office email addresses are listed here (24 in all). You only need to send it to their DC (202 area code) office, but if you have the time, do them all!

1. Write something in Word, Notepad, etc
2. Copy and paste the email addresses into a new/forwarded email.
3. Send away!

We shut down phone systems, let's put their fax machines into overdrive!

I called McCaskill's DC office on Friday. The staffer told me that McCaskill hadn't committed to a position yet, but had "serious reservations" about some of the provisions in the bill. She also said that McCaskill is cognitive of the fact that 80% of Missouri's power is generated from coal.

Sounds encouraging, doesn't it? My prediction is that in the end, McCaskill will vote YES. After all, the Senate is the House of Lords.

To solidify the false right/left paradigm, Bond's office assured me that he would vote no. I've put Bond on Traitor Watch. Mark my words, he will go out in a blaze of traitorous glory just like Danforth did when he voted yes on Klinton's Crime Bill on his way out of the Senate.
