Actually drinking this wipes out your body of salt and needed minerals. Distilled water is in fact too pure. Your body NEEDS minerals.

Still waiting for my 37,000 views.

Guess I just don't self-bump enough. It pays to advertise...

Speaking of which, the thread I'm far more proud of is pushing 17,000...

I made that argument to a friend of mine who drinks distilled water and he said you can get all the necessary minerals from fruits and veggies. Of course that means you have to eat fruits and veggies.

I guess that depends on what kind of fruit and veggies you are eating :D

Nah, man. You can tell the wind-up TV's by their wind up keys, like the one on the left:

http://www.featurepics.com/FI/Thumb300/20071227/Old-Television-Dial-556195.jpg

Very handy stuff. Those old units are not only incredibly reliable, it's exceptionally easy to turn the damned things off. In fact, if you have one from the days of the old 'clicker' remotes, any dog with tags on his or her collar can turn the damned thing off just by scratching his or her fleas.

Good dog.

And what the hell are those things on the mantle next to the CDs?

Magnetic impulses trapped on celluloid strips. Very handy way to preserve and archive out of print sound 'they' don't want you to hear any more.

Don't let the technosnobs fool you folks. Every speaker ever made is analog. So are your ears. And eyes. And so is your brain.

You wouldn't have that problem if you had a squelch knob. You'd have to put up with some static but you'd still get the message.

You'd think Ron Paul supporters, of all people, would understand that yes/no<understanding shades of gray. And that new=/=better. Digital is just so completely perfect--until conditions aren't just so, when it stops working altogether. Perfection or nothing sure results in a lot of nothing. And when it fails, there ain't jack you can do but give up on getting the job done. No fiddling or adjusting will help you. No way to punt.

Just like one size fits all laws. They create perfection--for every situation that fits the mold. If you're different, however, you're bent right over and screwed real hard.

Remember Katrina? Once upon a time stores had windows and price tags and people who could add working there and customers with cash money in their pockets. So, when the power went out, this didn't mean people had to go hungry. Now the only way to avoid starvation is looting. It's nuts.

We're so digitized we can no longer come up with a Plan B to save our very lives.

I've been trying to talk my wife into trying to play the fiddle for awhile now. She thinks they are too tough though.

Well no wonder. Violins are analog. It isn't just whether or not you hit the right note, but how well you play it.

I'm beginning to suspect this thread should be merged with the one on the deliberate dumbing down of America. Unfortunately, this is a question that has no yes/no answer...

Right, no frets either so its even more like having to dial in to get the right note. She can play pretty much anything else; but she tried a fiddle once and it scared her away -- she doesn't like to sound bad.

The harpsichord is much safer for this digitized generation. You hit the right key at the right time or you don't. No subtlety required.

That sounds just like the guitar hero games. :)

Exactly so. And why GH is in no way like real guitars. That game is a virtual harpsichord--harpsichords being very different from pianos in that it doesn't matter how hard or soft you are in pounding the keys, it all comes out the same. In fact, I do believe the pianoforte (softloud) got its name--to emphasize it's analog advantage to the digitalesque harpsichord.

Fortunately, my kid is showing a great interest in my banjo already, much to the chagrin of my wife who would prefer he had an affinity to the guitar.

Don't blame her.

Don't ever expose him to bagpipes. She'll divorce you.
