I might have some influence in an upcoming local Republican Party straw poll.

Give me some ideas on what kind of questions I should submit?

A strict constructionist approach to the Constitution is:
a) only important for Supreme Court justices and no one else,
b) important for all officials who take oaths to uphold the Constitution,
c) not important at all.

For multiple choice answers on this one you might put something like:
a) Yes, no matter who is president, even if it's a Democrat whose definition of "terrorist" includes militia members, fundamentalist Christians, pro-lifers, and lovers of the Constitution.
b) Yes, but only when we have a Republican president who will only use of these powers against Muslims, communists, femi-nazis, and environmentalist wackos.
c) No.

Do you believe Americans should have the freedom to live their lives any way they choose so long as they do not infringe on the life, liberty, or property of others?

I believe questions that could be used to alienate the religious right might be warranted at this time. Since they are somewhat weaker now in the Republican Party. Questions should be designed to steer the local members away from the religious right and back to fiscal conservatism.

Not certain how though.

That seems like an odd thing to do. The religious right is a lot closer to Ron Paul than most other Republicans are. We should unite with them against our common enemies in the party, the neoconservatives and the establishment moderates.

Were the deaths of over 1 million Iraqis and thousands of American soldiers in Iraq worth the removal of Saddam Hussein, despite him being a former ally who did not possess weapons of mass destruction?

Do you oppose unconstitutional violations of privacy such as the PATRIOT Act?

I like this question, but take out the bias. To find out what people really think I would rephrase the question.

1. Do you have any knowledge regarding the Patriot Act?
a. A lot
b. A little
c. a bit
blah blah blah

2. Do you support or oppose the Patriot Act?
a) support
b) oppose

By putting in "unconstitutional" or whatever you lead the person to answer a particular way that could ruin the poll.

It's a straw poll. It's purpose isn't to learn about our opposition. It's to gin up support for our ideas by making them look good so that when the poll results are released we win and the other party factions lose. At least that's the assumption I'm working with.

The key point here I think is "importance" in the mind of the voter in the poll.

What does the voter think is important and how does it relate to other issues and their importance?

Have you read the constitution in the past six months?

Do you know the difference between Fascism and Socialism?

Do you know the difference between conservatives and neoconservatives?

Should Republican Senators who voted for TARP and Obama's GIVE Act be supported for re-election in 2010?

Should the US continue to send billions of our tax dollars to both Israel and it's enemies so they can continue to fight?

Should peaceful political protest in the US be considered terrorism?

Is the US government a threat to you or your livelihood?

Does the media give the same coverage to conservative Republicans as they do neoconservative Republicans?

Do you consider yourself a neoconservative?

Federal government is too active in local issues that should be left to the states to deal with.
