local bands would be better. I know many hardcore/punk/metal bands that are promoting the word of Ron Paul in New England. Now if those people vote thats another thing!

Anything that can be done to pull in new voters, independents, and democrats is very important.

Because the way the numbers sit now, I do not believe Ron Paul can conceivably carry a majority of self-identified "likely GOP primary voters" based on the positions he has taken.

To win the nomination with only existing "likely GOP primary voters" there would have to be a massive shift of GOP opinion to both 1) we should withdraw from Iraq now, and 2) withdrawing from the Middle East will ensure our safety from radical Islamic terrorism.

Now that the Petraeus report has come and gone and given neo-conservative Republicans new resolve, the likelihood of either of those occurring between now and the end of the year is even lower.

So, yes, unless we can massively pull in new voters and independent voters to vote for Paul in the primaries in key states, he will not win. And endorsement from popular bands would help that effort.

It'd be great if we could get them to tour colleges and do a RP donation tour.

Excellent idea.

Bands have hordes of followers who would vote for anybody they told them to.

RP "only" needs to carry a plurality of GOP primary voters to win if the race stays as splintered as it is now.

Don't snicker but I would LOVE to see Barry Manilow WHO DONATED do a Ron Paul tribute - especially since he recently dissed the Vannitized Neocon Elizabeth Hassleback

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal." -- Alice Cooper

Hopefully if you do contact artists they have more sophistication than that guy (nothing against Alice Cooper ;) he rocks). I mean, the OP suggested Eminen... wtf? Hehehehe

We should get Willie Nelson to endorse Ron Paul.

He said something in Seattle I believe it was about liking RP.. no official endorsements though.

And I gave him a slimjim and one of the Ozzfest flyers when we saw him on Aug 28th. No comment though, he just smiled and put it in a pocket.

Something like Green Day, Good Charlotte, Fallout Boy, etc would be great. Get the recently-turned voting age kids on board.

I wonder if they would volunteer (or some small stipend) to play across the universities wearing RP shirts and raising $ for RP. Just a thought.

here's a list of "libertarian celebrities"
http://www.theadvocates.org/celebrities.html

looks like the only relevant musician would be billie joe from green day, but he hasn't exactly claimed he's libertarian

What we need is a travelling "RonStock" like Lollapalooza going from place to place next Summer to raise awareness of Ron Paul and his issues. Right before the final headliner, Ron Paul could make an appearance at the show to give a brief discussion of the issues, and really jazz people up about the campaign.

It would be a real challenge to pull something like that together, though.

as a full time touring hardcore/punk/metal scene type musician i talk to relatively prominent musicians about ron paul all the time, as those are the people i socialize with and thats what im into. I promote Dr. Paul in interviews all the time, including a few i did in the New England area on college stations earlier this year.

I was actually first told about Ron Paul by my producer, Brian Virtue(who recorded the latest Janes Addiction, Deftones, and Audioslave records). Funny thing is he was more of your traditional California leftist type, and I've always been sortof a traditional libertarian, so i was surprised to see him turn that way.

For those of you who are into the sortof modern metal touring bands, I have a side project with Evan Brewer of Animosity(metal blade/black market activities metal band) who is definately into Dr. Paul, I had the dudes from the Faceless(sumerian) watch some videos at my house, and I've pimped the Ron Paul phenomenon at tour dates to friends in Human Abstract(hopeless records), Drop Dead Gorgeous(geffen), and the singer from Job For A Cowboy(metal blade) whom i got to type Ron Paul's name into his phone to check it out later on. everybody's reactions have varied somewhere between somewhat interested to extremely pumped, no one has seemed to disapprove in the slightest.

these type of metal bands however are not really into soapboxing, as i think a lot of their followings may be a bit too young, but they have enough influence over web traffic and crowds to where i figured it might help the cause if they get pumped about it. A vast majority of people in the hardcore/metal community are down with Paul, at least the men, the women are a bit tougher in that community.

It's exciting to me because my libertarian attitude always appealed to the punk in me, more than anything else, the desire to be an individuals, be left to my own devices, express what i want to when i want to, etc, but most of the people i would associate with were closer to Green Party types than anything else, which is essentially the American socialist movement. I couldn't feel more alienated by a form of government than the totalitarian, economically restrictive stranglehold of the extreme left, and now it seems like everything has spun back the other way and the libertarian idealogy is much "cooler".

Are college age students into those bands? Would they do RP fundraisers at colleges? (Sounds like a 2 for 1 special .. get $ and get RP name recognition)
