According to TechPresident.com(which I have heard is being quoted in the media), Ron Paul is third in the number of Myspace.com friends:
Obama: 176,546
Clinton: 136,124
Paul: 63,325

Ron Paul is also third in Facebook.com support:
Obama: 147,323
Clinton: 43,288
Paul: 26,095

These numbers are very easy to increase and only takes a few minutes to do so. I've written a step-by-step quick and dirty guide to help those of us who aren't very tech-savvy to sign up and support Ron Paul on both of these sites. Please feel free to post this wherever you want (message boards, meetups, etc.). With the support structure we have, there is no reason why we shouldn't be first on both of these sites.

If you don't feel comfortable giving your email address to either of these sites, just sign up to with Yahoo http://mail.yahoo.com , Hotmail http://mail.live.com or Lycos http://mail.lycos.com for a free email account.

Reading the comments on Hillary's myspace is a great indicator of what we are up against and the overall ignorance of the average citizen. Some are quite scary:

"I don't believe that you are a supporter of the Black Panthers, Mrs. President, and I (along with several of my friends on this CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN CATHOLIC COLLEGE of the University of Dallas, TX) will be voting for you!!! Best wishes!!"

"HI THERE MRS. CLINTON, I REALLY HOPE YOU WIN NEXT YEAR THIS COUNTRY NEEDS ALLOT OF CHANGE AND I KNOW YOU ARE THE WOMAN TO GET THE JOB DONE. LOTS OF LUCK IN THE ELECTION, YOU HAVE MY VOTE."

"Was a big fan of yours while your husband was President. Be voting for you this time GOOD LUCK"

"Hey Mrs.Clinton...
Thanx 4 the add... I am so voting for you to run as our president... I have good feelings about you, you're gonna rock as president, everything will be put back in order like Bill Clinton had it, and the world will once again become peaceful... VOTE HILLARY CLINTON for PRESIDENT!!!"

"I was at one of your meetings in iowa, when you came to indian hills community college. I almost cried hearing how passionate you are about what this country needs and im totally supporting you 100%. but someone told me your anti-gun :( i love guns."

It's gonna be an uphill battle.

But we don't want Ron Paul to win a contest for Myspace and Facebook friends. We want him to be president of the USA. Get your butts away from the internet and do something productive.

Exactly, Boots on the ground are productive. Eyes on the computer screen, like masturbation, merely cause blindness.

the same people that are supporting Obama/Clinton on myspace, were the same people that supported Dean in 04 .They will not turn out to vote, they will not campaign for them.

Practically everyone under the age of 25 is using these sites. I think getting RP to the top of these lists will get a lot of attention especially if the media is indeed mentioning those sites or www.techpresident.com . Again, joining these site takes about the same time as is does to type a couple of posts on this forum. But, if you aren't interested, no problem. I just posted it for the people that are.

Thanks.

I'll be the first to admit that I wouldn't have known who Ron Paul was if it weren't for Myspace. Everyday people are on myspace, and most of them don't like to read more than a paragraph. A few kind words about Ron Paul and his stances, tossed in with a nice embedded video or two, can be just as, if not more, effective than knocking on someone's door with some kind words and a few pamphlets. Another bonus is that the person is already at their computer, so doing research on RP as a candidate is instantaneous.

Just my own two cents.

As much as I hate to join facebook, I did. It will dedicated to Ron Paul, as I would rather be left alone on the internet.

Heres an idea to stretch Myspace and Facebook exposure farther. Go to the competing candidates page's and send messages to the commenters asking why they are supporting who they support? Engage in normal social convo but steer it toward to RP. It has worked for me already.

At the same time, the perception of actual, unmitigated support is helpful. Anyone on here should sign up and have RP affiliated with them on Facebook and MySpace, even if you use either infrequently, if ever after signup. Additionally, add the Election 2008 app from Newsvine on Facebook and vote. Every little bit makes a difference and makes your representation known.

It's not the act that causes it. It's trying to decipher low rez porn images that kills the eyes.

There's value in Facebook and MySpace--I just used them to help promote one of RP's rallies, for instance-- and they may prove helpful for turnout later.

Sometimes it's appropriate to get a voter's myspace/facebook in addition to or instead of a phone number or other info.

For people who use Facebook, besides the elections app already mentioned there are embeddable apps that can intro your stalkers to RP:

Ron Paul TV (http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2526881393) <-- nice. It's embedded freeme.tv
Ron Paul Quotes (http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=4607811273)
even Hotlists (http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2546255184) depending on how you use it--

Just keep it in perspective-- it should be but one of your tools to bring your real-life people to RP.

I have been waiting for Ron Paul to add me as his Myspace friend since two days ago.
