Dear Congressman,
I am writing as a concerned citizen of (state) to ask you to consider co-sponsoring S.604, the “Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009.” While a lot of emphasis has been placed on the transparency of banks and insurance companies through regulation and oversight, the Federal Reserve is still exempt from a formal audit. The citizens of (state), whose tax dollars are on the line, deserve to know where money is coming from and going at all stages.
31USC§714 currently reads:
Audits of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal reserve banks may not include—
(1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;
(2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations;
(3) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or
(4) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to clauses (1)–(3) of this subsection.
In other words, the Federal Reserve is held to no accountability whatsoever! S.604 would eliminate these restrictions, allowing citizens to see the actions of the Fed and to demand accountability for the use of their tax dollars.
As you may be aware, the bill's House counterpart, H.R.1207, has garnered over 220 co-sponsors, ranging from all across the political spectrum. This is an issue that is not politically charged, but is rather an ethical measure to ensure a sound, accountable financial system.
Please consider co-sponsoring and supporting S.604, and help bring transparency to every facet of the use of our tax dollars. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
(Your Name)

Please forward this on to everyone you know. While Congress demands more oversight of banks, insurance companies, auto makers, and anyone else who receives federal funds, the Federal Reserve has no oversight whatsoever. With a national debt of around $11 trillion (NOT including future obligations via Social Security and other programs), the Federal Reserve has increased the monetary base at a rate never before seen in history. Shouldn't "We the People" have a right to know what the Federal Reserve is doing with our tax dollars?
H.R. 1207, introduced to the House floor by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, would remove the restrictions that make a formal audit of the Federal Reserve impossible. Now that this measure has more than 220 co-sponsors and looks likely to pass the House, it is important to focus on the Senate. S.604, introduced by Sen. Bernard Sanders (D-VT) and already co-sponsored by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), is the Senate counterpart to H.R. 1207.
Attached to this e-mail is a form letter to send to your Senators asking for his/her support of S.604. The text of the letter is also below. Please fax this letter to your Congressman (his/her fax number can easily be found via the Senate website or through a quick Google search). An e-mail can be ignored; a phone call only lasts a few minutes; a fax is a hard copy that will be in their office.
Please forward this e-mail to everyone you know!
Thanks,

Contact Glenn Beck asking him to report on S.604 ("me@glennbeck.com", "stu@glennbeck.com"):
Glenn,
I am writing to ask you to feature a segment on your show (television or radio) on S.604 - the "Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009." You have mentioned the House counterpart of the bill, H.R.1207, on the air several times; and now that this measure has more than 220 co-sponsors and looks likely to pass the House, it is important to also have the Senate stand up for transparency and accountability in our monetary system. While many members of Congress clamor about oversight of the banks and companies that receive bailout money, they should be concerned about the lack of transparency of the Federal Reserve - the organization with a monopoly on our country's money supply.
31USC§714 currently reads:
Audits of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal reserve banks may not include—
(1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;
(2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations;
(3) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or
(4) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to clauses (1)–(3) of this subsection.
Basically, the Federal Reserve is not held accountable for any of its actions. As taxpayers, we deserve to know where our tax money is coming from and going, and the level of currency debasement that we all may face with irresponsible monetary policy. S.604 would remove these restrictions and allow for a complete audit of the Federal Reserve.
Thanks for your time, and I look forward to seeing/hearing about S.604 on your show!

E-mail everyone you know:

(1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;
(2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations;
