View Full Version : Now that HR 1207 has 222 co-sponsors, do some RPF members owe an apology?

I'm talking about the members who wanted RP to give up his Congressional seat last year and run 3rd party in the general election.

Had that happened there'd be no HR 1207 with a majority of The House members as co-sponsors.

Ron Paul ran 3rd Party in Louisiana and didn't have to give up his congressional seat.
strawman proven.

You got a point there but he couldn't do that in every state nor win that way.

we didn't put him on the ballot because he was going to win. We wanted to vote for the best man for the job.
I'm sure it could have been done in many states had people thought of it.
I never felt like it was Ron running for president, I felt like it was us running for president.

This is a pointless thread. Rather than celebrate and continue to push the bill you want to point fingers? Grow up and lets continue to work.

Hindsight is 20/20, I'd rather look forward.

And I don't know because I never got into those discussions.

It's only a discussion...and let's celebrate.

Plus we don't want the same thing happening again in 2012...RP decides to run in 2012, it's not looking good after Super Tuesday and people are pressuring him to run 3rd party.

We can do both...celebrate, continue to work and learn from past mistakes.

At one point I wanted him to run third party, but I didn't know he'd lose his congressional seat. When I discovered that I voted for Chuck. Would have liked to cast my vote for Ron, but Chuck was good :)

Regardless, what we've accomplished is a victory that should be celebrated. To point fingers really is pointless, particularly considering we have to sway the Senate opinion now.

And I'm aware it's only a discussion but do we really want to pit one against the other? A thread like this is an "I told you so" thread...it doesn't really further any purpose we have.

No he did not. You just built your own strawman. OTHERS got him on the ballot and did not need his permission to do so. Ron Paul signed a contract with the GOP that he could NOT run 3rd party if he wanted to be included in the debates.

I got him on the ballot. He was on the ballot as a third party candidate, and he didn't have to give up his republican status.
Any party can put forth any candidate.

We could have had him on many states as a 3rd party candidate without him sacrificing anything.
