I hope Peter could get Cornyn to agree on two things

1. He'll fund whoever wins the primary
2. He'll stay out of the primary

i think the NRSC already has money set aside to try to bring down Dodd. Hopefully if Peter gets the nom, they will give that cash to Schiff, to really seal the deal in bringing down this criminal.

The NRSC provides invaluable support and assistance to current and prospective Republican U.S. Senate candidates in the areas of budget planning, election law compliance, fundraising, communications tools and messaging, research and strategy.

I'm sure he could use their fundraising help.

The NRSC won't cross Simmons. He is part of the establishment.

I would be banking on a pledge from Cornyn to stay out of the primary. That is the only thing Schiff has a chance of getting.

Or, if Schiff is the nominee they will still help him.

I don't think they'd have a problem nominating someone who could beat Dodd in the primary, no matter who it was.

Remember Augustus Cho? He was establishment, and BJ Lawson got 70% of the primary vote.

Augustus Cho wasn't that prominent though. It was also a safe dem district.

Here, the nominee means everything. It is a national race, not some outside chance that could be wasted on an experimental run. They are going to make sure they can win.

So, they have to balance out corporate money versus the Ron Paul grassroots and money.

Also, they have to wonder if Schiff is or isn't mainstream enough versus pulling in the independent voters.

Really, for the NRSC it is a big question and a gamble. They also have to way how tarred Caligiuri or Simmons are.

That is why it is a quite viable option to just stay out of the primary and work with what you get. Basically it becomes is there a candidate we are worried about their chance of winning. If they are worried a candidate might primary up who can't win they will act against them.

Well obviously, the NRSC is going to be worried about Schiff being a "team player" and supporting their BS warmongering and "social issues" as well.

But then again, with a state like CT, they might figure, hey, if Schiff wins the primary and has a chance to beat Dodd, that would still be x 10 better than Dodd himself. They know for sure that Schiff will vote with them on all fiscal issues, and all domestic fiscal issues like healthcare and entitlements, etc.

Not necessarily. Schiff may turn out to be a "Dr. No" who can't vote "yes" on much of anything because most bills are unconstitutional in some way. His purpose may be ideological, like Ron Paul, and may advance his own important legislation. He can convert many voters to the Revolution.

Well I was assuming that the GOP was going to go back to "fiscal conservatism" now that a Dem is in office, so my point was that Schiff would be a solid NO vote for them on all big-spending, socialist issues. He could tip the scales away from socialist programs.

Peter is a businessman. I'm sure he'll do fine schmoozing the GOP establishment.
