Ron Paul just sent an email to his 2008 donors.

And just like that...

http://www.randpaul2010.com is loading awfully slow.

But hopefully we'll see a ton of fundraising support! :)

I got the email, clicked on the link, and the site was "unavailable". This is not good.

Haha, I thought it was just my internet making it load that slow when I clicked on the link that Ron sent. Hopefully it gets back to normal as soon as possible.

hopefully the site operator realizes what happened and fixes the problem (adds more bandwidth or w/e) and a new email goes out explaining the overwhelming response.

Yeah, the site is getting pounded right now. Hopefully it will be getting pounded with donations soon enough.

I recall RonPaul's site having trouble a couple times in the early days.

Hopefully they will have another email coordinated with a moneybomb

Seems like it woulda made sense to just make a static landing page for this type of thing. No dynamic mumbo-jumbo. Just a straight html page, lot less overhead with that. Then leave the dynamic stuff for people drilling into the site.

Didn't this happen when Murray Sabrin got an email? And then I think it might have happened when BJ Lawson got an email? Maybe next time we can be ready?

They should have prepared for this...

All they had to do was send out the emails at 100 per minute or whatever over a period of a few days instead of emailing everyone at once.

torchbearer

it is still down.
is this the second time the site has gone down?
losing donation chances.

No, it went down because the emails resulted in a lot of traffic to the site. I'm pretty sure...

I went to the site and it said "Data base error" under fund raising.... has anyone donated lately? Can people still donate? :) I sure hope so!

Of course, but if they spread out the emails, it would have spread out people hitting the site.

I did notice in the past, his website downloads a lot of stuff when you go to the front page.
Must be a lot of bandwidth per hit.

Maybe they hired the old Freedom Watch technical crew to run Rand's site after the Judge fired their asses a few weeks ago?

Now that is funny.

And I'm now only getting the HTTP 500 error, instead of the page just loading slow.

Edit: I get this message now

This is epic fail. And how many people won't bother checking back at the site later? A LOT. That's tens of thousands of dollars down the drain.

Yea, the lost money alone would buy more then enough bandwith... But i guess you can look at the bright side too, the horde is back!

I'm guessing that if so many show up the first time, they'll show up again.

Rand needs to have his people beef up the site - big time - and then RP needs to send out a second email, with apologies, explaining that there was so much interest the first time around that the site crashed.

For those who haven't seen the Ron Paul email yet:

Dear Friend,

My son, Rand, has helped me campaign since he was 11. He and his brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews have literally knocked on thousands of doors for me.

At the age of 21, Rand debated Phil Gramm in my US Senate race in my stead. During the Presidential election he traveled to ten states giving speeches for me. He appeared on hundreds of radio programs for me. I am grateful for his contribution and very proud of the thoughtful, principled man Rand has become.

So, it is with great enthusiasm that I endorse my son Rand's venture into electoral politics. Rand has formed an exploratory committee to run for Senate in Kentucky. Sending Rand to Washington would be a tremendous victory for the Freedom Movement.

I hope you will join me in supporting Rand in any way you feel comfortable. You can get more information or make a contribution at www.randpaul2010.com

Rand has also established himself as a significant force in Kentucky politics. For fifteen years he has run Kentucky Taxpayers United, a group that rates the state legislature and promotes the Taxpayer Protection Pledge whereby candidates and office holders take a pledge not to raise taxes.

Like me, Rand is a graduate of Duke Medical School. Rand is an eye surgeon, married for eighteen years, and has three children. In addition to politics, he is the founder of the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic that provides free care for those in need.

I hope you will visit Rand's website, www.randpaul2010.com, and consider supporting him in any way you can.

In Liberty,

Ron Paul

Look at RP flexing his fundraising muscles....

So will RPs simple email trump the recent mini-moneybomb? It certainly appears possible....
