Paul simply has to collect signatures to qualify for the primary ballot, same as everyone else in Illinois. There are similar requirements in many states.

Ballot access petitioning is the normal process in primary states. What they are proposing and asking for is exactly right. If you live in IL and meet the criteria to be a "Ron Paul delegate candidate" please contact them.

any update on this process? I know many others are NOT doing the work on this and the deadline is Nov 5!

Yes we are working on it. We should have it in a couple weeks.

We actually are in great need of people to help get signatures. Go to this page:

http://ronpaul.meetup.com/94/messages/boards/view/viewthread?thread=3732321

And contact Jason Acebal, our ballot coordinator. We have to get a certain amount of signatures in each Congressional District (there are 19 of them), with hundreds in each one. Some don't have many so far and we need them by Thanksgiving. If you live in Illinois or in a nearby area please contact Jason and help us out.

How are we doing in the 14th district? I already donated $225 to his campaign and it would leave a sour taste in my mouth if I don't see his name on the ballot.

"4 presidential hopefuls file for GOP primary
Tribune staff report
November 29, 2007
Four Republican presidential campaigns filed paperwork Wednesday to secure spots on the Feb. 5 Illinois primary ballot along with dozens of delegate candidates who hope to win invitations to next year's convention in St. Paul.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and Texas Rep. Ron Paul sought a place on the primary ballot. Other contenders, including former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, have until Dec. 5 to do so.

Among Republicans, voters will be able to cast a preference for a presidential nominee, but the election has no bearing on the selection of nominating convention delegates. Instead, voters will directly elect convention delegates from each congressional district.

Thompson's campaign filed delegate slates in only a handful of districts, while Paul's campaign filed no delegate candidates Wednesday.

Before everyone freaks out about RP not filing for delegates, the plan is to do it on December 3rd so that signatures still have the weekend to get up to Jason in Chicago.
Thanks to everyone who helped out in getting signatures. We'll probably have pretty close to a final count after tomorrow night.

Meeting Minutes for Nov. 29 Conference Call

Jason Acebal gave a progress report on our petitioning effort

The volunteers have done an excellent job and really stepped up the
effort. With the added signatures from our professional petitioners,
we should be in good shape for next Wednesday's submission in
Springfield, hitting 170% (or more) of the minimum required signatures
in most congressional districts.

Joe Cesarone lead a discussion of our recent progress and strategy
going forward

We will be concentrating on get out the vote (GOTV) efforts, by doing
phone banking and targeted outreach. We need to get name, address,
phone number and email addresses from potential volunteers and
supporters, and follow up. We are still working out the details
regarding database access, but in the meantime send any contact
information to Joe at XXXXX@ronpaul2008.com.

Orders for materials have been very slow, due to two factors:
inefficiencies in the ordering process for state coordinators, and the
Ron Paul Store not being able to keep up with demand. The national HQ
is making improvements in the process, and all materials ordered
should eventually arrive. Please let Joe know what you need as far in
advance as possible.

The Arlington Heights office has been a tremendous success so far. We
have been given approval to open the Chicago office in Lakeview., and
the lease should be signed shortly. There are possibilities for
offices in DuPage county, as well as central and southern Illinois.
People in those areas will be following up with Joe.

Scott Bludorn, who has done much volunteer work with the Chicago
Meetup group since the beginning and is very experienced with Illinois
politics, will be joining the campaign staff as an Illinois field
coordinator. He will focus on northern Illinois but will also
communicate with volunteers throughout the state to assist with GOTV
efforts.

Our friends in Iowa need help - it is critical that Ron Paul does well
in the Iowa caucuses, which are coming up on January 3. We now have an
opportunity to help with the Iowa Walk Offs. Volunteers will help
distribute literature in three separate cities on three consecutive
Saturdays, Dec. 1 (Des Moines), Dec. 8 (Waterloo) and Dec. 15
(Davenport). (Obviously, the Des Moines Walk Off has already passed us
by at the time these minutes are being sent out). Details for the
Waterloo Walk Off are posted on the Greater Chicago Meetup site here:
http://ronpaul.meetup.com/94/calendar/6843542/ Details for the
Davenport Walk Off have not yet been finalized - keep your eye on the
Iowa page at ronpaul2008.com: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/states/iowa/
