We have a military to protect us from force.

What are some examples of fraud and what methods does the government use to protect us?

one is identity theft -- and the protection is laws against it and probably some law enforcement undercover work to expose it, and attempts to make id's that are harder to counterfeit.

They are the fraud!

If not they are behind it or those involved!

Social Security numbers. :D

What about contracts, like if you pay for a full tank of propane but receive less than what you paid for?

When oil prices soared in 2008, propane suppliers quietly reduced by two pounds the amount of gas pumped into each 20-pound tank, saying they wanted to avoid raising prices.

Since then, propane prices have been cut in half as the price of oil has dropped. But smaller refills are still being sold nationwide by many dealers, and most buyers are unaware because the tank is the same size.

Here is an example of their concern for us. This is from an email from San Diego.

My daughter needed a copy of her birth certificate. As she waited her turn, she witnessed a male Hispanic requesting a birth certificates in a woman's name. They would leave with big grins on their faces like they just hit the jackpot.

When it was her turn, she showed great concern that they didn't ask for any ID. All they wanted was a SS# and Mother's Maiden Name. Because she questioned their easy access procedure, they gave her the following/attached document.

Like more stringent laws would help considering what they do with the enforcement of the laws we have.

Is the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) compatible with a libertarian society? If someone could answer that, that would be appreciated.

the government can't protect you from crime- it can handle the retribution for that crime.
You have to prevent fraud/force yourself.

If you freely admit that you have engaged in fraud, the government will make you go to your room (or stay in your Penthouse apartment like Bernie Madoff).

The government protects you from fraud through the court system. If you are a victim of fraud you report it and then there is a trial to determine if fraud has occurred.

The military does NOT protect us.

The government commits fraud all the time itself (fiat currency, etc.), and certainly does NOT protect anyone from it!

Even though fraud is a criminal activity, many law enforcement agencies will not investigate or prosecute. They claim lack of resources.

Heck, a guy I worked with had a relative murdered, and the Police wouldn't take the time to arrest the murderer (resources again). It was an ex-boyfriend who killed her, with witnesses and everything.

After about a week, some other relatives made a citizen's arrest on the guy. He was injured while "resisting arrest"...
