Distinguished Friends,

The ancient Egyptians called their country "Kemet" or "Black Country" a reference to the bottomlands of the Nile where well over 90% of Egyptians lived.

Well over 90% of the land of ancient Egypt, however was not "Kemet" but "Deshret" or "Red Country"...the outlying desert inhabited mostly by wild animals, outlaws & laborers at State-owned mines.

For about eight months of the year, the inhabitants of Kemet lived alongside the Nile...but during the four months between July & October, when the river was up, ancient Egyptians lived on islands in middle of the Nile.

During this time of Recession, Egyptians dwelt in the shade of their own vines & fig trees.
Unwelcome visitors might well turn up at the door in the form of a croc or a hippo...but not in one of a Tim Geithner or a Larry Summers, giving the land three housand years of history without a bank-bailout. Not bad.

Thus I am reminded of a tune, popular in the American South during the Civil War

Ho boys
Make a noise
The Yankees are afraid.
The river's up
Hell's to pay
Shelby's on a raid

"Shelby", here, of course, is the Western State Cavalry icon, General Joseph Shelby, CSA. The "River" presumably is the Mississippi...but why a high river would put Yankeedom at a disadvantage escaped me

Like the ancient Egyptians, Uncle Sam, (based as he is on noted, manic depressive, Abraham Lincoln), is also subject to a world of oscillation...namely the business cycle.

Unlike the ancient Egyptians, however, Americans are not inclined to adopt alternating life-styles...retiring to their island homes when the "river's up".
To any American President, Congressman or TV Pundit, "Isolationism" & "Retreat" are the worst of imaginable American sins, to be characterized as "turning tail"..."cutting & running".

Back in the late 1960s, when it was clear to one & all that continuing to prosecute the war in Vietnam Nam was only going to lose us more troops with nothing left to show for it, the argument for pulling out could be expected to be trumped by "We can't pull out! We're already there!"

Anyone who assumed that the art of strategic retreat was taught at West Point was disabused of that notion by the run for the exits of April 1975.

Far from any "Domino Effect" or any feared, predatory move by China, the only thing the Fall of Saigon set off was five years of world-wide Discomania...that plus a major new demand in the unified Vietnam for American-brand cigarettes.

Two of the most successful generals on the Southern side in the Civil War...Jo Shelby & his east-of-the Mississippi counterpart, Nathan Bedford Forrest, were notable for never having attended West Point, never having fought in the Mexican-American War or having had any military experience.

Both were made Generals only belatedly & reluctantly as their specialties had been the covering of retreats & the feigning of retreats.

As "Retreating", to West Pointers, then as now, has been known as the mark of humiliation I suspect that West Pointers Davis & Lee, specialists in the open-field maneuvers & ballistics, found it difficult to promote such guerrilla warriors as Shelby & Forrest to the rank of General.

It probably didn't help that to spit & polish Lee, a Jo Shelby, who night after night for months at a time, slept on the ground under a tarp, was know to take on the appearance of a homeless person.

Thus, born without a reverse gear, our Uncle Sam, finding himself overextended, economically, militarily, & stretched to the breaking point, can be counted on, not to take a page from the Egyptians of yore, & retire, for a time, under his own Vine & Fig- tree. (Does today's Uncle Sam even have a Vine & Fig-tree?)..but to to double down & attempt to blast his way out.

This is the reason for the proposed Football-club & Car-dealership, Community Plantation Initiative...10,000 Community Plantations world-wide....960 of which would be in the United States.

A Quote from the Internet, Anon

No theme appears more frequently in the writings of Washington than his love for his land. The diaries are a monument to that concern. In his letters he referred often, as an expression of this devotion and its resulting contentment, to an Old Testament passage. After the Revolution, when he had returned to Mount Vernon, he wrote the Marquis de Lafayette on Feb. 1, 1784: "At length my Dear Marquis I am become a private citizen on the banks of the Potomac, & under the shadow of my own Vine & my own Fig-tree." This phrase occurs at least 11 times in Washington's letters. "And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree" (2 Kings 18:31).

(I notice that the Father of our Country, like Yours truly, is in the custom of using the stylish ampersand, the "&" instead of the laborious "and".
The "&", a page livener, is perfectly correct...& puts the writer in the class of the "tuned-in", & the "hard-core". Try it out.)

p.s.

This, admittedly, is a bit esoteric...but I ask you to bear with me here.

In the world of Egyptology there is a major dispute about the age of the Sphinx. Official Egyptology, represented by Dr. Zahi Hawass & Mark Lehner say that the Sphinx is exactly as old as the three pyramids on the Giza plateau...4,500 years old.

The New Egyptologists, represented by Messers John Anthony West, Robert Schoch, Robert Bauval & Graham Hancock, say that while the three pyramids may well date back to 3000 BC, the Sphinx goes back to at least 10,500 BC...& that both the Pyramids & the Sphinx relate to the night sky exactly as it would have appeared on the Vernal Equinox in 10,500 BC.

At some time between 3000 BC & the present, the Sphinx, having been buried in sand up to its neck was unearthed & repaired. Those who did the repairwork noticed what appeared to be a uncompleted leonine rump, as it was buried still in a four-foot depth of bedrock. Thus the aft bedrock was lowered four feet to give the 240 foot long statue a much desired, completed rump.

What the New Egyptologists are saying is that the purpose of the Sphinx, back in the Vernal Equinox of 10,500 BC was to greet the rising Leo in the sky, just before sunrise with its own image...& I was struck by the comment, in last week's newsletter video, that Leo rose "head & shoulders" first.

Now in Leo, the two stars that form the base of the lion are its brightest star, Regulus (in the Arabic language "Qalb al-Assad" the "Heart of the Lion")...& its second brightest star "Denebola" (in Arabic "Deneb al-Assad", the "Tail of the Lion").

If, in fact, Regulus hit the horizon before Denebola...& the angle formed by Regulus, Denebola & the horizon was .75 degrees...on a statue 240 foot long this would be symbolized by having the Sphinx's rump four feet underground.

If this is the case, not only does the Sphinx represent the early morning sky of the Vernal Equinox in 10,500 BC, but the exact moment, on that morning, 12,500 years ago that Regulus appeared on the horizon.

AND...If this is the case, the repairwork to the rump of the Sphinx was done by individuals who had no idea of the astronomical meaning of the statue...in stark contrast to the builders of the Giza pyramids whose understanding of the heavens & of building construction verged on the superhuman.

As for the head of the Sphinx, which Hawass & Lehner both insist resembles the Pharaoh Chephren who built the Second Pyramid in 3000 BC. I would say that not only does the Sphinx look nothing at all like Chephren .but that it does look exactly like a 25th Dynasty, Nubian.

A Nubian Pharaoh, moreover, unlike Chephren, would have a reason, to put a Nubian head on the Sphinx, as the popular image of Nubians for thousands of years had been one of enemy combatant, captive & servant.

Here is a photo of a Nubian gal taken by Leni Riefenstahl.

What I would like to propose here is an organization to be called "University Projects in Advanced Egyptology", to take up where Dr. Hawass, with his entry-level endeavors of tombs, mummies & artifacts leaves off.

Dr. Hawass, I hear, wants to get his hands on the Nefertiti so he can "restore" it by giving her a spray-on tan. Nothing doing, I say.

"Nefer" in the old language, means "beautiful" & "titi", I believe, means something like "arrival"...a clear reference here to a foreign-born bride from points north...not, perhaps, unlike our next Supreme Court Justice.

This New Egyptology could be organized at universities around the world in the fields of astronomy, engineering, seismography, paleo-climatology & linguistics....& even cinematic recreations in the Egyptian language. Best placed to take advantage of this New Egyptology, of course, would be university students in Egypt.

I would like to run this idea past Messrs West, Schoch, Bauval & Hancock, leading exponents of the New Egyptology...but currently working without a much-needed support group.
