I visited there in 1994 and 1997.

I'm a lot more pissed they took it down in the first place.

Obviously, who isn't? Still I think it should be rebuilt.

Not me.

It was state run boondoggle from day one, losing money year after year.

Architecturally speaking, they were a blight on downtown Manhattan.

Are you serious? Who cares?? Why don't you get some money buy the property and rebuild the towers the same exact way. I wonder how many companies you will get to buy office space...

I wanted it to stand even taller, though.

PS: There's a group still lobbying for that, if you want to sign their petition. http://www.twintowersalliance.com/

It was a State-funded eyesore, and the new one will be a State-funded eyesore. If they allowed the market to work, people would build useful things on that land, like shops and apartment buildings. But we can't have that, now can we?

They used to hate us for our freedoms. So might as well rebuild them now that we don't have any freedoms left.

First they hate us becuase we policed the world and secondly that's not my point. It was a great tourist attraction for the city of New York and it was a great New York tradition. The otehr thing was that it was fun going up there and looking at the entire New York area. The Freedom Tower is taller then the orgininal WTC but the observation deck is much lower. I think it should be rebuilt as exactly as before but it should be privately funded.

I prefer they build it bigger and better, the old design had flaws which became evident on 9/11.

I really do not care how they build it, but you must be aware that asbestos could not be allowed again. :D

Then of course there is the fact that it becomes a sitting duck if they rebuild it as before. Does not sound very smart. It was way too conspicuous and symbolic thus the perfect target at least on two occasions.

It also was not a very safe set of buildings for evacuations. Why would you want to place people again in such a dangerous environment?

What about offering employees parachutes at the top floors as well as voluntary parachute lessons for evacuating the building?

Last, you could drown in a bathtub and you can die in a car accident. So should we not have bathtubs and cars?

I don't think it was a very good or popular building. It had a lot of vacancies.

Perhaps a simple memorial might be most appropriate.

A solemn tribute to the victims and families. And to inspire freedom in the living against tyrannies that resort to ill deeds, secrecy, lies and cover-ups.

The fact that you haven't built any serious structures in 30 years is a really bad sign. It is probably one of the solid indicators that the last few decades 'growth' has been fake.

Nice point.

We don't make anything else anymore, it should come as no surprise that large buildings are included in that.

If it can't be stuffed into a shipping container, or a Ro/Ro, it's not on the market anymore, for the most part.

I don't care what they build there, but to keep it as ground zero in some shrine type thing is totally unproductive.
