I registered to vote today. It was a big deal.

You see, I have a stalker. Most of a decade ago, obsessed with me, s/he physically attacked me. From behind. The cops came. S/he has been after me ever since. How seriously? I have left my old email address open to provide a pressure valve for this disturbed person... and s/he writes to me every single day. This after most of a decade. Needless to say, I never write back.

I moved away after the attack, and in the years since, I have kept a low profile. My phone is not in my name; I have no ID cards showing my current address; family, friends, and coworkers don't know where I live; etc. I haven't minded contributing to the campaign because FEC records will only show where my mail is delivered.

But now my name and street address are on the voter rolls. Let's hope my stalker doesn't guess what state and town I'm living in.

Only Ron Paul and the cause of freedom could get me to do this!

I know what it's like to have someone invading my privacy and security, and I'm disgusted at the thought of the government taking away people's right to self-defense, and making people get a Real ID, and using the Patriot Act to paw through medical records and listen to phone calls, and trampling so many rights for which people a whole lot braver than I have fought and died over the centuries.

I have read that something like 1 in 8 Americans have been stalked at some point in their lives. The loss of rights in the name of "security" is going to lead to actual loss of security for countless people who have good, honest reasons for wanting to live quietly.

I know this sounds like an ad, but please... donate what you can to the campaign.

GO RON GO!!!

Thank you for taking such a big step outside of your comfort zone for RP.

A bit of Google searching led to a California program called "Safe at Home" that allows one to have a confidential address for voter registration purposes if the person is a victim of domestic violence, being stalked, or an abortion clinic worker:

http://vote2003.sos.ca.gov/voter/3-8-confidential.html

Your state may have this type of program available. I would advise contacting the Secretary of State for your state and / or a "victim's rights" group to request advice on this issue.

Do a Google search of safe at home and voter registration for your state because I just found that Kansas has the same program as California:

http://www.kssos.org/safeathome/sah_voter_registration.html

As does Minnesota:

http://www.sos.state.mn.us/home/index.asp?page=859

Minnesota also provides a Word document that lists other states with similar programs and their contact info:
