Tell Congress to Oppose $2 Trillion Climate Tax!
"Cap-and-trade" is a regulatory scheme for supposedly reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which are thought to contribute to global warming. Its proponents avoid using the term "tax," but that is the inevitable result. The government sets a limit (a "cap") on how much CO2 can be emitted by an industry or a region or the country as a whole. Emission permits for that amount are given out or sold -- policies which in themselves have a huge potential for political favoritism and corruption. Companies that must exceed their allotted permits, or that need to get new permits, then have to buy them from other permit-holders who haven't used theirs up.

The cost of buying those permits will raise the price of what these companies produce. Since the main sources of CO2 emissions are fossil fuels, for all practical purposes we'll end up with a massive tax increase on energy from oil, gas, and coal. As a new Congressional Budget Office report notes, "By attaching a cost to CO2 emissions, a cap-and-trade program would thus lead to price increases for energy." That will affect every product whose manufacture or transportation involves fossil fuels!

Starting in 2012, President Obama plans on raising $645 billion in revenue over eight years with his cap-and-trade proposal, although a top administration official told Senate staffers that the figure could be as high as $2 trillion. It would be one of the largest tax hikes ever, imposed by politicians too dishonest to label it a tax. The Waxman-Markey bill may contain an even more massive program, though its details are still shrouded in secrecy.

Cap-and-trade advocates may claim there's no tax, but believe us -- your pocketbook will know that it's a massive tax hike!

House to Vote on $1,500 Tax on Household Energy

the House Energy and Commerce Committee began its multi-day markup of the misnamed American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, H.R. 2454. Sponsored by Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA), the bill attempts to impose a system of "cap-and-trade" in order to combat so-called "global warming." This massive, across-the-board household energy tax is being disguised by congressional liberals and is being sold under the slogan "cap-and-trade, " which simply means giving the government power to put a cap on the amount of carbon emissions (CO2) produced by the production of electricity, gasoline, and heating oil, and forcing businesses to actively lobby Congress for higher cap levels and to buy permits for the emissions they are allowed.

Rather than calling it "cap-and-trade," it should be called "cap-and-tax"-as it caps Americans' standard of living and taxes our use of products whose manufacture emits CO2.

If passed and signed into law, H.R. 2454 will further cripple our economy and drain your pockets in the following ways:

It will raise electricity rates by 90 percent, gasoline by 74 percent, and residential natural gas prices by 55 percent by 2035, after adjusting for inflation.

It imposes an annual burden of $144.8 billion per year on U.S. households, and it will reduce household earnings by a projected $37.8 billion.

It will further cut U.S. employment levels by 965,000 jobs by reducing economic output by $136 billion per year-this translates to a $1,145 increase in energy costs per American household.

It will force low-income households to disproportionately bear the across-the-board energy cost increase, as a larger percentage of the poor's income goes toward energy costs, as opposed to wealthier households.

It sets the stage to effectively kill the coal industry as it will be taxed so heavily, it will not be able to sustain itself.

Although you'd never know it from watching or listening to the mainstream media, the vast majority of Americans actually oppose enacting cap-and-tax policy. A recent Zogby International poll shows that only 30 percent of Americans support cap-and-tax, and 57 percent oppose it. The issue of "global warming" is even dead last among voter priorities, according to a Pew Research poll.

Cap-and-tax with the goal of energy-rationing is dangerous, not only for your pocketbook, but also for the well-being of your family and your standard of living. H.R. 2454 is a truly unique piece of "environmental legislation" in that it promises not a single tangible benefit to the American people! All it does promise is massive tax-revenues for the liberal-run federal government to help disguise their reckless spending. Even James Hansen, the NASA scientist who is among the most ardent proponents of man-made global warming, is against passage of Waxman-Markey.

H.R. 2454 is simply the left-wing Majority's way of disguising a massive tax on the middle-class to fund President Obama's numerous big spending boondoggles. H.R. 2454 is a hidden tax and it must be defeated this week in the House!

Take Action!

This alert is district-specific so that you can contact the target Members who have declared themselves as "undecided" on H.R. 2454. They need to hear from you, their constituents! Many moderate, Blue Dog Democrats know that this is a risky vote as they are aware it is simply a disguised, massive tax increase on their middle-class constituents. Hundreds of amendments will be offered in committee in an attempt to "improve" this bill, but a massive stealth tax cannot be improved, it must be defeated! Please contact your Congressman now and tell them that you expect them to oppose the cap-and-tax bill this week!

The cap-and-trade Carbon Tax is now officially on the fast-track and Chairman Henry Waxman is forcing a vote in less than 48 hours.

Yesterday, Waxman officially skipped the subcommittee and sent out a memo that the 1,000+-page bill would be pushed through the key Energy and Commerce committee by Thursday:

"My goal is to conclude consideration of the legislation on Thursday, May 21... Members should be prepared to work late on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings."

Will that be the line?

No, thow one I like to use is "Don't lay down the foundation for a One-Child Policy for America that China as."

Here is the copy of the fax message from Grassfire.

When NASA scientist James Hansen, who is considered the most ardent proponent of manmade global warming urges the defeat of the Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade bill currently being rushed through Congress, itís time to take notice!

As he says, there is positively no cause-and-effect relationship established between rising carbon emissions and higher temperatures. In fact, the opposite is proving to be true!

How then can anyone seriously consider passing a crippling cap-and-trade bill that would saddle American families with an additional $3,100 per year tax.

I urge you to oppose the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill and instead focus on ways of protecting American families that are being crushed under the current tax and spend policies of President Obamaís administration.

Don't Let Congress Sneak Through a $2 Trillion Climate Tax!
Representatives Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Ed Markey (D-MA) have devised legislation that would dramatically raise the prices you pay for the energy you need, like electricity and gasoline. By placing a cap on carbon dioxide output, their bill would force energy companies to pay through the nose for additional emissions permits. That means you would face higher bills for gasoline, utilities, and virtually every consumer product.

This plan would impose nearly $2 trillion in higher taxes on you and your family, while damaging the economy and putting more Americans out of work. If passed, this kind of legislation would be a classic case of the cure being worse than the disease.
