Meaning Texas will have a special election to fill her Senate seat.

Hmmm.

A Democrat has a real shot at winning that. Our turnout is pretty shitty when it's not a gubernatorial or presidential election. My sonofabitch Representative was originally elected with a small fraction of his original vote in the runoff and he's been there ever since.

I've heard others say they don't think he could win a state-wide election like that. I don't know enough of the Texas political landscape to judge. But because it's a special election he could do it without losing [i.e., not running for] his House seat. I wonder...

If he seriously isn't thinking about 2012, maybe running for Senate here could be a good idea.

WOAH!

if its a special election he can run without it affecting his congressional seat?

I wonder if he'll consider this!

How do we find out the rules about this? If Paul can run without negative consequence in the House, he should absolutely do it. With our grassroots funding, we could raise a large sum of money on short notice... a definite advantage

According to http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm Senator Hutchison is class I, meaning (according to http://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/class.htm) that her term doesn't expire until 2013.

If Dr. Paul took this seat he'd have it for a fairly long time.

I just a read an article APPARENTLY Cornyn is worried about a Republican being able to raise money quickly and compete in a special election should KBH resign this year

we need to get the message across to Senator Cornyn that we're ready, willing and able to support Ron Paul for senate!

how do we do this?

I suspect that Sen. Cornyn doesn't want Dr. Paul in the Senate. But then again, who knows? I think the best thing, if Dr. Paul wanted to do this, would be for him and John Tate of C4L to schedule a meeting with Sen. Cornyn to discuss the money bomb tactic.

I asked in another place (non-partisan, Texas audience) who was positioned to run for a special election. Early consensus is that Michael Williams would likely be high on Perry's list (ie. the local GOP machine's favorite). He apparently already has a campaign site:

If Dr. Paul is not interested in the senate seat, what Liberty minded folk might consider a run?

Ideas?

I hope I hope Ron runs for that seat.

See the post at http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=192624 for more info and the update in the opening thread on why this may not be a good idea after all.

I ask again:

Who do we know that could make a run for this?

Medina.

But isn't she still running for governor (though of course winning that is a long-shot)?

Hmm. I don't know. Has anyone asked her about this? With a RP money bomb it might work.
