That any mainstream Isreali magazine would report something that so weakens the raison d'être for Israel tells me something's up. My analysis is that strange as it may seem, this article is a red herring. I think perhaps Russian archives (the USSR controlled all of eastern europe and half of the former German territory and all of the "death camps" after the war) might contain some information that will blow the lid off the standard WWII narrative we all learned in school and that it might suddenly be in Russia's interest to release such information.

Their "defense" news looks pretty fair and balanced to me. They lean somewhat to the left but so does the LA times. Would you argue that it's not mainstream?

They lean very much tothe left - not just in Foreign Policy, which matters little to me - but in the sense of endorsing avariety of socialist politics, and allowing a wide array of socialist and communist [as in, Communist Party members] as columnists.

They deride the evils of consumerism, American society and it's influence, etc.

They are also mostly read by the most elitist branches of Israeli society. They have a very, very small market share.

On the other hand they retain one or two token slightly right-wing economists. (very slightly).

That makes it that much more inexplicable that they would run a story blaming Stalin (a Communist icon) for starting WWII. It would be like the Spotlight ('60s far right publication) running an article excoriating George Wallace.

And you guys believe it? The Nazi's were propaganda masters, you can't take what they say at face value. The Jews couldn't force Hitler to invade Poland.

Its like Wall St blaming Subprime for the credit crunch when its really loose lending, derivatives, and structured finance that's to blame.

Its like Bush demonizing the Islamic extremists... right before invading Iraq.

But ok, if you want to blame the Jews for WW2, how exactly did they start it? Was it Jews and not Germans (who blamed Communists) that burned the Reichstag? Was it Jews and not Germans (who blamed Poland) that attacked the radio outpost on the Polish border?
