Handwritten Notes Show Fed Oversight Bill Neutered On Senate Floor
05/ 8/09 06:07 PM

Legislation to give Congress greater oversight of the Federal Reserve was severely watered down on the Senate floor Wednesday in private negotiations between two powerful Republican senators.

Thanks to an overlooked document posted on the website of Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the top ranking Republican on the Finance Committee, voters can virtually watch the water being dumped into the brew that Grassley had hoped to force the Fed to drink. (See the document at the bottom of this story.)

On page five of Grassley's amendment, he intends to give the Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office power to audit "any action taken by the Board under...the third undesignated paragraph of section 13 of the Federal Reserve Act" -- which would be almost everything that it has done on an emergency basis to address the financial crisis, encompassing its massive expansion of opaque buying and lending.

Arianna Huffington was on CNN the other night and gave Barack Obama an "F" on the economy, saying hes doing the same thing Bush did and he should go back to the free economy, I was in shock, then the republican strategist came on and said "I wouldn't take it to the extreme of Arianna but I think Obama is doing an okay job"

Maybe Huffington Post is becoming on our side.

Wow. She said laissez-faire capitalism should be as dead as Soviet communism (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/laissez-faire-capitalism_b_152900.html) back in Dec. I guess Obama's communism wasn't all it was cracked up to be, huh?

What Republican strategist said that?! It had to be a Bushcon.

Shelby's office must have shown this to the legal staff of the General Counsel of the Federal Reserve System's to make the amendment. There is NO WAY that Shelby or his staff would be articulating such detail in this bill.

Some dems are in the same place some reps (like myself) were when we found out Bush was a fool and harming the country and the only real answer to this shit is to give people liberty again.

Arianna Huffington always just takes the opposite side of the sitting President. She was a neo-con during the Clinton years, and circulated a petition to impeach him. Then she turned liberal and started Huff Po to bash bush. Now she's turning on Obama just to garner more attention for herself.

Senator Charles "CHUCK" Grassley of Iowa also was the BIG business pusher of the 2005 "Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005"(BAPCPA)

aka

Enslaved to Debt and Repayment for Life, no matter circumstances ACT of 2005.

Grassley is becoming one of the biggest NEOCONS on Capital Hill. Big Subsidies Puppet to AGRI, IRS Taxer, and Bio Fuels... He s NOT A Republican.

Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 H.R. 1207

What HR 1207 will reveal, which politicians of BOTH PARTIES that try to alter, kill, or not endorse this bill proves, the political puppets report and represent their true TPTB masters and not the people or US Constitution.

There needs to be a battery of rebuttals to the BS excuses of change and lies clowns like; Chuck Grassley, Barney Frank, et al on Senate version S.604 - Sponsored by Sen. Bernard Sanders

Need to call them ALL OUT on this one. Get the video cameras and get them to admit they report to their masters not the well being of the country and it's future.

Good. The media is supposed to be anti-establishment. They are supposed to be critical of government no matter who is in power.
