A media person asked me why I think people should care about what the bike ride. Here was my response:

I think people should care because there is a rising tide of discontent in this nation. Many people are waking up and wondering what can be done to nudge the drowsy? This ride is designed precisly for that purpose. While TeaParties (INC) is a fairly new phenomena, The r3VOLution has been sounding the alarm for years. This ride is merely a continuation; an EVOLution of the r3VOLution. Things this ride will accomplish are:

* Spark casual discussion of important topics, and document some awakening of the slumbering giant,

1. encroaching tyranny and sensible solutions to halt the march towards a police state. Setting brushfires in the soul of humanity.
2. The dangers and idiocy of centralizing gov''t; concentraing power far from home. How local solutions and personal responsibilty work better

* Document dis-satisfaction across America, and showcase the solutions of those who are working to right the wrong.
* Clearing "bridges" between "officialdom" and the r3VOLution, and documenting the experience.

People should care because; too many people complain about "no-one DOING anything", when the fact is, some people have been doing something about it all along. Perhaps, it is time for more people to pay attention. While most cannot do something like this trip. By following, or helping in anyway, they actually become part of a neverending story and ARE on the ride with me, DOING something.

PEDALING A TOUGH MESSAGE

Riding his Bicycle from The Statue of Liberty to Alcatraz, Activist Michael Maresco Pedals Symbolically from Freedom to Fascism
PHOTO OP
Liberty State Park, NJ: On Sunday May 24, 2009 at 11am in Liberty State Park, NJ (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Liberty+State+Park&sll=36.879621,-81.5625&sspn=35.311515,53.876953&ie=UTF8&ll=40.711353,-74.059181&spn=0.131682,0.210457&z=12), Bicyclist Michael Maresco will begin a 63 day - 4000 mile journey across the continental United States of America. While traversing the country (http://r3publican.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/picture-9.png) on a modified WalMart Schwinn (http://nycewheels.com/ezeebike-electricbicyclemotor-kit.html), Mr. Maresco plans to meet with Governors and County Sheriffs to discuss their vital roles in preserving citizens’ liberty and a constitutionally correct Rule of Law.

“The sheriff absolutely has the power and responsibility to defend his citizens against all enemies, including those from our own Federal Government,” says Michael Maresco, better known as the Ron Paul Rider (http://www.ronpaulriders.com/index.html) and Walk for Freedom (http://libertyrider.com/walk-for-freedom/) organizer. "My hope is that fellow Americans will take notice of this bike ride, with the topics being discussed, and take an honest look at the problems fast overwhelming this country.”

44 year old Hawaii resident, Maresco continues, “The marriage of special interests and government has put America on a slippery slope. I’m making this ride to emphasize, that relief from the current ‘crisis’ will ultimately come from individual citizens interacting positively with their neighbors, not from a corporatized central government, which appears to be the way its going now. Hence the theme of my ride from freedom to fascism. ”

The book, The County Sheriff - America’s Last Hope (http://sheriffmack.com/index.php/books-by-richard-mack) by Sheriff Richard Mack and DVDs (http://www.committeesofsafety.org/store) from the Committees Of Safety (http://www.committeesofsafety.org/) will be distributed to each County Sheriff during Mr. Maresco’s scheduled meetings. Pocket constitutions and Ron Paul’s The Revolution a Manifesto (http://www.amazon.com/Revolution-Manifesto-Ron-Paul/dp/0446537519) have also been generously donated by the Campaign for Liberty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Paul%27s_Campaign_for_Liberty) for distribution during the 63 day - 4000 mile “Ride for Honesty”.

“Designed as an outreach campaign, The Ride for Honesty is not a protest or demonstration,” says Nick Ramaglia, Local Logistics Coordinator for the Ride. “In each town Michael passes through he will directly address, in an understated yet memorable way, the condition of our country and the solution to its troubles: namely, the principles of Liberty and The Constitution.”

The Ride for Honesty is being funded by the grassroots. Michael will do some grueling legwork – literally! Donations to support this Evolution of the R3VOLution can be made at [/URL]http://libertyrider.com/support/ (http://libertyrider.com/support/)

Now, the part where I ask you for some of your hard earned money. The trip, and materials, will cost around $7,000. Extra funds will give us more pocket constitutions/etc, and increase our opportunities. We will be posting all expenses (minus $50/wk "pettycash") and working transparently. Anything left in the till will be used for further efforts towards liberty. With hat in hand, I ask for your support.

Even though funds are a bit tight for me right now, I just contributed $20 to the effort, since i found out you'll also be campaigning for Kokesh when you hit New Mexico. I hope others consider donating to this as well

Love the bike. Is it electric?

Really great project here.

I'll buy you lunch and a beer in Goldfield, NV if you like. I'll be up in that general vicinity working all summer through Aug.

Five stars.

A media person asked me why I think people should care about what the bike ride.

The old media isn't talking about the problems caused by government. So it's time someone spread the message...one revolution at a time.

Thank you for doing this rph.

this gave me a great idea, we should get a bunch of rp supporters together in our respective cities and have like 20 cars driving in a big line all honking and holding up signs or something, that would get a lot of attention from neighbors
